Lance Redmon not human verified

One of the things we did is we toured schools from El Paso area down to Corpus here in the

Lance Redmon not human verified

Houston area.

Lance Redmon not human verified

and my life's been relatively sheltered growing up in this district and serving

Lance Redmon not human verified

in this district and to be able to see what it looks like a school with 200

Lance Redmon not human verified

kids to the school with a lot more kids and one of the the coolest things about

Lance Redmon not human verified

the program was we were able to bring in those there were 33 trustees here to

Lance Redmon not human verified

Katie and show off our schools and our administrators and our teachers and our

Lance Redmon not human verified

our kids and so again just thanks board and our district for the support

Lance Redmon not human verified

appreciate it congrats congrats

Unknown speaker not human verified

we have any scouts in the audience doesn't look like we do at this time the

Unknown speaker not human verified

administratively through proper channels as stated in board policy the presiding

Unknown speaker not human verified

Unknown speaker not human verified

Unknown speaker not human verified

or charged against an officer or employee.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Should a speaker wish to address one of these issues,

Unknown speaker not human verified

they must do so through the appropriate local grievance

Unknown speaker not human verified

policies, FNG local, DTBA local, CKE local, or GF local.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Our speakers will be called forward in the order

Unknown speaker not human verified

that they signed up to speak.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Our first speaker, and he is an agenda item speaker,

Unknown speaker not human verified

speaker is Kush Vijapur. Welcome Kush.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Hello board. My name is Kush Vijapur and I'm a rising senior at Jordan High School.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I'm here to talk about agenda item 7.9 considering approval of the 2024 to 2025

Unknown speaker not human verified

discipline management plan and student code of conduct. Before I begin the content of my speech

Unknown speaker not human verified

I'd like to mention that the last time I was here I was interrupted by Mr. Perez.

Unknown speaker not human verified

With that being said, I'm not here to have a conversation. I'm simply here to

Unknown speaker not human verified

critique and propose solutions to issues within the Student Code of Conduct and

Unknown speaker not human verified

would thus not like to be interrupted again. Let's begin. Page 8 of the Student

Unknown speaker not human verified

Code of Conduct deals with complaints of bullying. It reads, a student who would

Unknown speaker not human verified

prefer to remain anonymous when filing a bullying complaint should submit a

Unknown speaker not human verified

detailed report to the KDISD speak-up application. Let's pose a hypothetical

Unknown speaker not human verified

hypothetical scenario. A student witnesses someone getting bullied in the hallway of

Unknown speaker not human verified

a school. What they now have to do to report it is download an app, create an account,

Unknown speaker not human verified

fill out a form, write a report, and then their complaint will be processed and I quote,

Unknown speaker not human verified

within 10 business days from the date of the report being made unless extenuating circumstances

Unknown speaker not human verified

make it necessary to continue the investigation beyond 10 business days. There are two major

Unknown speaker not human verified

problems with that process. First is that it is a large amount of work for high school

Unknown speaker not human verified

students preoccupied with grades, sports, and other extracurricular activities. So much so,

Unknown speaker not human verified

that it discourages students from even bothering. I mean, why take the time to fill out a form,

Unknown speaker not human verified

write an application, create an application, and all of those other steps, when they do not need

Unknown speaker not human verified

to report something that has nothing to do with them? There's simply no incentive for someone to

Unknown speaker not human verified

take the time out of their day to report a case of bullying through a multi-step process. This leads

Unknown speaker not human verified

to kids to adopt a not-my-problem attitude, which means that bullying stays within schools and goes

Unknown speaker not human verified

unreported. The second major issue is that this is simply an extremely

Unknown speaker not human verified

ineffective solution. Ten business days later the student might have already

Unknown speaker not human verified

failed the test due to distraction and emotional pressure on their life as a

Unknown speaker not human verified

result of bullying. Ten business days later the student being bullied could

Unknown speaker not human verified

be suffering with extreme anxiety and emotional distress causing their

Unknown speaker not human verified

performance throughout life to decline. Ten business days later the same student

Unknown speaker not human verified

could be on the verge of depression and suicide. Instead of having measures that

Unknown speaker not human verified

are extremely reactive and cannot save lives at risk due to bullying, we need

Unknown speaker not human verified

proactive measures that can save students lives. Speak up is not enough.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Change the student code of conduct. It needs more revision. Thank you so much.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Thank you. Our next speaker is Ann Russi. This is in the non-agenda items category.

Ann Russi not human verified

And after that is John Liner. Good evening. My name is Ann Russi. I'm a mom

Ann Russi not human verified

to two KDISD students. Tonight I'm here in my role as a board member for Katie

Ann Russi not human verified

Pride. Katie Pride's vision is to create a community where all LGBTQ plus

Ann Russi not human verified

individuals can live authentically and safely without persecution, judgment, hate,

Ann Russi not human verified

or fear. We invite you to adopt a resolution to recognize LGBT Pride Month

Ann Russi not human verified

that will help us towards those goals. The proposed resolution reads, whereas

Ann Russi not human verified

Whereas KDISD believes that all learners are unique and thrive through personalized learning,

Ann Russi not human verified

that when ideas and individuals are respected, a culture of mutual respect is built that benefits all stakeholders,

Ann Russi not human verified

that collaboration which honors all voices creates ownership that drives personal accountability,

Ann Russi not human verified

and that being open-minded fosters continual improvement.

Ann Russi not human verified

and whereas LGBT Pride Month is celebrated every June to mark the

Ann Russi not human verified

anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall uprising which was a riot sparked by

Ann Russi not human verified

community resistance to targeted police harassment and brutality led by

Ann Russi not human verified

transgender women of color Marsha P Johnson and Sylvia Rivera and whereas

Ann Russi not human verified

LGBT students are more than four times as likely to attempt suicide compared to

Ann Russi not human verified

to their straight and cisgender peers,

Ann Russi not human verified

and whereas LGBT students, educators, and their families

Ann Russi not human verified

continue to flee the state of Texas and KDISD

Ann Russi not human verified

as a result of harmful and discriminatory

Ann Russi not human verified

legislative attacks and local policies,

Ann Russi not human verified

and whereas those passing policies

Ann Russi not human verified

that target and marginalize LGBT people

Ann Russi not human verified

insist that they are doing so

Ann Russi not human verified

in the name of protecting children

Ann Russi not human verified

when they are in fact harming them,

Ann Russi not human verified

and whereas protective factors for LGBT students

Ann Russi not human verified

students include safe, inclusive classrooms, symbols of allyship, and safe spaces are welcome,

Ann Russi not human verified

where perpetrators of sexual orientation and gender identity-focused bullying and harassment are held accountable,

Ann Russi not human verified

and where conversations about LGBT people center their input rather than ignoring their identities, perspectives, and experiences.

Ann Russi not human verified

Therefore, be it resolved that KDISD proclaims the month of June 2024 to be LGBTQ Plus Pride Month

Ann Russi not human verified

and will honor and highlight the profound contributions and accomplishments of the district's queer

Ann Russi not human verified

students staff and community members by recognizing Pride Month

Ann Russi not human verified

The board acknowledges that despite our best efforts to diminish and dull their sparkle

Ann Russi not human verified

LGBTQ plus students and staff continue to shine

Ann Russi not human verified

Katie pride welcomes the opportunity to work with this board and our district to make this resolution a reality. Thank you. Thank you

Unknown speaker not human verified

John Liner, followed by Marcy Sable.

Unknown speaker not human verified

My name is John Liner, graduate of Cinco Ranch High School, class of 2013, four-year class president, varsity football captain,

Unknown speaker not human verified

superintendents roundtable member, Eagle Scout, 2021 Morton Ranch Junior High Teacher of the Year,

Unknown speaker not human verified

and presently I serve as the inaugural associate director of bands of high school number 10, Freeman High School.

Unknown speaker not human verified

On behalf of the family, players, friends, parents, and the Cinco Ranch community, I'm here to solicit your full support and endorsement to rename the athletic complex at Cinco Ranch High School the Don Clayton Athletic Complex.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Coach Don Clayton is a man of integrity, high character, and he is a tremendous family man.

Unknown speaker not human verified

From the first day that I interacted with him, he showed that he cared about me as a player.

Unknown speaker not human verified

But more importantly, he constantly invested in myself and my teammates as we developed into young men.

Unknown speaker not human verified

In his tenure at Cinco, Coach developed one of the strongest and well-respected football programs in the state of Texas.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Over many years, Coach's teams were known for their heart, their relentless effort, their will to win, and their high character.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is no coincidence because it's often said that teams are direct

Unknown speaker not human verified

reflection of their leader and the Cinco Ranch team we were a reflection of our

Unknown speaker not human verified

leader coach Clayton. What does that look like? 140 wins, 13 playoff visits, two

Unknown speaker not human verified

state semifinal appearances, campus teacher of the year, district coach of

Unknown speaker not human verified

the year, Houston touchdown club coach of the year, Marine Semper Fidelis coach of

Unknown speaker not human verified

the year, Texas high school coach Association Hall of Honor. We could keep

Unknown speaker not human verified

keep going. He's the real deal. As campus athletic coordinator, Coach Clayton

Unknown speaker not human verified

oversaw numerous state champion individuals and teams including seven

Unknown speaker not human verified

top ten finishes in the Governor's Cup which encompasses all sports across the

Unknown speaker not human verified

entire state of Texas. The lessons that Coach Clayton instilled in me, I instill

Unknown speaker not human verified

in my students each and every day or at least I try to. I still remember the

Unknown speaker not human verified

goal-setting sessions that Coach conducted. These goal-setting sessions

Unknown speaker not human verified

were not about football, they're about what I wanted to do in life, what I

Unknown speaker not human verified

wanted to accomplish, what I was going to do in five or ten years. There was no

Unknown speaker not human verified

other organization on the campus that was doing that for me and believe me I

Unknown speaker not human verified

was involved in the school. So this man, Don Clayton, has left a legacy of

Unknown speaker not human verified

excellence, high character, and integrity in the halls, the weight rooms, the

Unknown speaker not human verified

training rooms, the fields, the courts of Cinco Ranch High School. President Perez,

Unknown speaker not human verified

Dr. Gorgorski, Board, the parents and the community of Cinco Ranch has recognized

Unknown speaker not human verified

coaches accolades. There's educators and colleagues across our district who have

Unknown speaker not human verified

recognized coach accolades. The state of Texas and their coaching associations

Unknown speaker not human verified

have honored coaches accolades. It's time for KDISD to honor coach Don Clayton by

Unknown speaker not human verified

renaming the Cinco Ranch Athletic Complex the Don Clayton Athletic Complex.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Thank you.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Thank you very much.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Thank you.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Marskew Sable, followed by Regina Johnson.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Good evening, President Perez, members of the board, Superintendent Dr. Kogorski.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I'm here this evening to speak to you about retention and longevity pay.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Despite a request being made, there continues to be no employee representation on the Retention Committee.

Unknown speaker not human verified

As I understand it, the Retention Committee is comprised of three of the new Board members.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Despite a request that all employee classifications be reviewed when considering retention,

Unknown speaker not human verified

the Retention Committee continues to solely focus on teachers.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I am familiar with longevity pay having been a beneficiary of such being a state employee

Unknown speaker not human verified

for 17 years prior to coming to KDISD.

Unknown speaker not human verified

In refreshing my memory about longevity pay, a Google search highlighted one single word

Unknown speaker not human verified

in the three definitions which I read, that word being loyalty.

Unknown speaker not human verified

As was stated in the recent work-study meeting, KDISD has raised the starting salary for teachers such that it is markedly above the median salary.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Additionally, the Human Resources Department, for at least the last three years, has employed a dedicated HR coordinator whose primary scope, I believe, is teacher recruitment and retention.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I believe the recruitment issue is covered. Consideration should be given to

Unknown speaker not human verified

a longevity payment plan that would not only reward a teacher who has been in

Unknown speaker not human verified

the profession for say seven years but also provide a second equal payment if

Unknown speaker not human verified

that teacher was employed by KDISD for five of those seven years. For those who

Unknown speaker not human verified

may have forgotten, together KDISD staff and teachers helped KDISD be one of the

Unknown speaker not human verified

first two school districts in the area to resume instruction during covid kdisd remained standing

Unknown speaker not human verified

after the other districts succumbed when the going gets tough the tough our teachers and staff get

Unknown speaker not human verified

going next a word about surveys the district is adept at creating and distributing surveys

Unknown speaker not human verified

we've had surveys for workplace culture the strategic plan bond programs and the instructional

Unknown speaker not human verified

calendar under the guidance of dr. grooms the communication staff could

Unknown speaker not human verified

easily create a survey for a longevity pay plan by which teachers could weigh

Unknown speaker not human verified

in on two things highly important to them recognition and compensation thank

Unknown speaker not human verified

you for your time thank you Virginia Johnson is our last speaker good

Unknown speaker not human verified

Good evening.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's been a hot minute since I've been here.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So first of all, I'd like to say thanks.

Unknown speaker not human verified

You guys got to know that you got amazing teachers right now

Unknown speaker not human verified

delivering curriculum, AP curriculum to kids

Unknown speaker not human verified

through Zooms and Canvas.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So amazing.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I mean, our teacher, she called from Ohio

Unknown speaker not human verified

to do a review with the kids to make sure

Unknown speaker not human verified

that they're ready for an exam.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So thank you very much for that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I really appreciate whatever you guys do to make that happen.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And with that, I want to thank the four of you, because without you here,

Unknown speaker not human verified

we would still be fighting the battles that we fought before you all got here.

Unknown speaker not human verified

You take arrows, your family takes arrows, so much so that you've got to call the cops and file police reports,

Unknown speaker not human verified

and that's unacceptable in my opinion.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Without the four of them here, the three of you probably wouldn't have been able to get through some of the stuff

Unknown speaker not human verified

that is now on your desk including making sure that females have safety and

Unknown speaker not human verified

the rights and that you follow HB 900 so it takes leadership to drive

Unknown speaker not human verified

accountability and that is 100% sure certain and holding folks accountable is

Unknown speaker not human verified

part of the tough job and I appreciate that y'all hold this administration

Unknown speaker not human verified

administration accountable. My daughter, my one daughter, twice, I opted her out of the

Unknown speaker not human verified

bully survey, I opted her out of the sex ed stuff, and the school district still tried

Unknown speaker not human verified

to force my kid into that, and I really appreciate Ms. Hack calling me and sorting that out and

Unknown speaker not human verified

getting the admin and admins to sort that out and what happened. So I would implore

Unknown speaker not human verified

the three of you, instead of going after these four and getting your folks to write PIRs

Unknown speaker not human verified

about how much your board attorney costs,

Unknown speaker not human verified

maybe figure out what it costs to rewrite the SAT twice

Unknown speaker not human verified

because of the failure of Chromebooks.

Unknown speaker not human verified

My daughter was one of the 5% students of juniors at Jordan High School

Unknown speaker not human verified

who had to rewrite the SAT because the Chromebook failed on her

Unknown speaker not human verified

after the math module.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I'd also implore you guys that are on the academic committee,

Unknown speaker not human verified

maybe look into why the SAT versus star performance.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I can tell you that the SAT math is no joke.

Unknown speaker not human verified

module two is super duper no joke and they're finding that the kids are coming

Unknown speaker not human verified

out of the school systems here especially the state and the district

Unknown speaker not human verified

not being able to write that exam on a digital platform the way they used to

Unknown speaker not human verified

write it on a paper platform I can get you in contact with a tutor that has

Unknown speaker not human verified

tutored many KTIC students and he's that's the thing that he's pulling

Unknown speaker not human verified

across finally I want to say thank you to the you guys for posting Ken Paxton's

Unknown speaker not human verified

a rebuttal against Biden's Title IX issue and protecting the girls.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The three of you, I wish you would have done that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

There's no place for hates, no place for the girls.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Put them in a compromising position.

Unknown speaker not human verified

They all...

Unknown speaker not human verified

Thank you.

5. Closed Meeting

Unknown speaker not human verified

This concludes the open forum portion of our meeting.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The Board will now convene in closed meeting as authorized under section 551.001 of the Texas Government Code for the following purposes.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Texas Government Code 551.071, 551.072, 551.074, and 551.129.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Good evening.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The Board will now reconvene in open meeting.

On behalf of my colleagues, I welcome everyone to today's regular board meeting.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Each board member received the agenda and documentation for this meeting on Thursday, June 20, 2024.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The board will receive information and recommendations from staff, administration, and the superintendent on these agenda items at tonight's meeting.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Board members will be able to ask questions, receive answers, and should be prepared to take action.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The Board has just reconvened from closed meeting. In accordance with Chapter 551 of the Texas Government Code,

Unknown speaker not human verified

any action arising from discussions in a closed meeting must be taken in an open meeting.

6.1 Consider Board approval of the purchase of property for a district facility.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We will now consider Board approval of the purchase of property for a district facility.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Mr. President.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Ms. Fox.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I move that the Board of Trustees approves the purchase of properties for

Rebecca Fox not human verified

district facilities as discussed in closed meeting. Second. We have a, it is

Unknown speaker not human verified

moved and seconded that the Board of Trustees approve the purchase of a

Unknown speaker not human verified

property for a district facility as discussed in closed meeting. We will now

Unknown speaker not human verified

proceed to vote. These are two properties, two properties. So it's a purchase of two

Unknown speaker not human verified

properties for a district facility as discussed in closed meeting we will now

Unknown speaker not human verified

proceed to vote board members please record your vote on the screen via your

Unknown speaker not human verified

keypad the eyes have it and the motion is adopted

6.2 Consider Board action to terminate the term contract of Tompkins High School teacher, James Stone.

Unknown speaker not human verified

the night of 6.2 is to consider board action to terminate the term contract of

Unknown speaker not human verified

Tompkins high school teacher James stone I will now entertain a motion for this

Unknown speaker not human verified

item mr. president I move that the Board of Trustees authorized administration to

Unknown speaker not human verified

approve action to terminate the term contract of Tompkins high school teacher

Unknown speaker not human verified

James stone do I have a second I second it is moved and seconded that the board

Unknown speaker not human verified

of trustees authorized administration to approve action to terminate the term

Unknown speaker not human verified

contract of Tompkins high school teacher James stone we will not proceed to vote

Unknown speaker not human verified

vote. Board members please record your vote on the screen via your keypad. The

Unknown speaker not human verified

ayes have it and the motion is adopted. We will now move on to the full consent

7. Consent items

Unknown speaker not human verified

agenda option. A consent agenda which shall include the items that were

Unknown speaker not human verified

discussed and considered at the previous work-study meeting as well as items of

Unknown speaker not human verified

recurring nature. The board shall be furnished with background material for

Unknown speaker not human verified

where each item, consent agenda item, shall be grouped together under one action item.

Unknown speaker not human verified

All items shall be acted upon by one vote without separate discussion

Unknown speaker not human verified

unless a board member requests that an item be withdrawn for individual consideration.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is for BE legal and BE local.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Are there any questions or any items that board members would like to remove from the consent agenda?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Mr. President?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Ms. Champagne?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I would like to remove 7.9 from the consent agenda, please, for further discussion.

Unknown speaker not human verified

7.9 is the discipline management plan.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It shall be removed from the consent agenda.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So at this time, anything else?

Unknown speaker not human verified

At this time, I'll entertain a motion to approve the consent agenda with the exception of 7.9.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Mr. President, point of order.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And this is a question.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Because something has been removed from consent agenda, should we discuss it first and then put it back and vote everything in if it's just a question?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Or do we need to move that out, vote consent agenda, and then vote another, make up a whole motion for that?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Do you just have a question?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Is it a question?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

It's a few questions.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Okay, well let's vote on everything except for 7.9.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I would say get those out of the way.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Then we will do 7.9 in its own action item.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Correct.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Thank you.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Do I have a motion to approve the consent agenda except for 7.9?

Lance Redmon not human verified

Mr. President.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr. Redmond.

Lance Redmon not human verified

I move that the Board of Trustees approves the consent agenda for

Lance Redmon not human verified

item 7.1 through 7.12 except for item 7.9,

Lance Redmon not human verified

which has been removed from the consent agenda.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Second.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It is moot and seconded that the Board of Trustees approves the consent agenda for 7.1

Unknown speaker not human verified

through 7.12 except for 7.9, which has been removed from the consent agenda.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We will now vote on the consent items via keypad.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The vote is 7-0 and the consent agenda with the exception of 7.9 is approved.

Unknown speaker not human verified

7.9 was pulled out of the consent agenda and it's being considered separately.

7.9 Consider Board approval of the 2024-2025 Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This time I'll open a discussion on the consent agenda,

Unknown speaker not human verified

which is to consider board approval of the 2024-2025 Discipline Management Plan

Unknown speaker not human verified

and the Student Code of Conduct.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Our presenter, which is, as always, is here to answer questions,

Unknown speaker not human verified

is Sherry Ashwin, Director of Student Affairs.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Are there any questions?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Yes, Mr. President.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Ms. Champagne?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Okay.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So I was reading afterwards,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and I did send in some information to the superintendent and to our president,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and I just would like to share what I have thought about since that time.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I understand the rules the differentiation between the elementary and the junior high and the high school and the need for that

Dawn Champagne not human verified

What my concern is is about the Apple watches and the smart phones. I mean the smart watches

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And I did some research and it seems that 39% of our teenagers own Apple watches

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And this does not include the smart watches

Dawn Champagne not human verified

so what I'm concerned about is how are we going to monitor

Dawn Champagne not human verified

these Apple watches and smart watches especially the smart watches

Dawn Champagne not human verified

are kind of disguised or not as easily identifiable

Dawn Champagne not human verified

as you know I have an Apple watch but the smart watches sometimes you don't know

Dawn Champagne not human verified

who is going to be responsible for

Dawn Champagne not human verified

making sure you know we have to look at everybody's watch

Dawn Champagne not human verified

so you know are they going to have to remove the watch

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Where are we going to put these expensive watches which cost $400 each?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

How are they going to be handled so that they're not broken?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Who's going to be responsible for them?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

How are we going to make sure they're, you know, we're going to ask them to turn them

Dawn Champagne not human verified

off?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

How are we going to make sure, you know, that's a big burden to me for a teacher.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

The teacher may have 30 plus kids in her classroom or his classroom and they have a finite amount

Dawn Champagne not human verified

amount of time to teach a lesson, but I could imagine having to make sure that everyone's

Dawn Champagne not human verified

smart watches or Apple watches are either turned off or off of their wrist is going

Dawn Champagne not human verified

to be a difficult chore for them.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So I'm just trying to find out what is the plan for making sure of that if we're going

Dawn Champagne not human verified

going to limit or restrict, not just limit, restrict the use of Apple Watches and smart

Dawn Champagne not human verified

watches. Every kid has a watch, just about. And we don't know if it's a smart watch or

Dawn Champagne not human verified

an Apple Watch. But I bet you most people, most teens have watches on.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So I probably won't have a perfect answer to fit, you know, the unique needs of all

Unknown speaker not human verified

of our campuses but i would imagine that with our school leadership and support

Unknown speaker not human verified

team our assistant superintendents working with those campus principals

Unknown speaker not human verified

and assistant principals to communicate clear guidelines to teachers and really

Unknown speaker not human verified

focusing on using devices as those telecommunication devices, using them to emit and receive messages

Unknown speaker not human verified

is going to be the concern, right? We don't want that communication piece to be a part

Unknown speaker not human verified

during that instructional time. So utilizing something as a watch to check the time, right,

Unknown speaker not human verified

would be one thing. And so we would be focusing on making sure that they aren't using those devices

Unknown speaker not human verified

to send or receive messages in that telecommunication function during that instructional

Unknown speaker not human verified

instructional time as far as who's going to pick them up. How are we going to ensure these expensive items aren't broken?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Um, that's going to be part of kind of that disclaimer on that that poster that we worked through which is you know

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's going to be handled. Um, I think it says something about

Unknown speaker not human verified

um

Unknown speaker not human verified

Confiscation to centralized location followed by you know, additional communication and pickup, right?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Those are the pieces campuses are going to have to work out

Unknown speaker not human verified

in consultation and support from their assistant superintendent so i don't have a direct answer

Unknown speaker not human verified

to all of those for you but that's something we're going to have to navigate um as we're moving

Unknown speaker not human verified

forward and just focusing again on that restriction of using those devices as a telecommunication

Dawn Champagne not human verified

device so um my follow-up question to that is who who's gonna are the teachers gonna get in trouble

Dawn Champagne not human verified

because they couldn't identify one of the kids with either the glasses on or

Dawn Champagne not human verified

the smartwatches or the fun you know you know who's going to be to blame for this

Dawn Champagne not human verified

because you know I understand a discipline management plan is there for

Dawn Champagne not human verified

people to follow the policies both the teachers and administrators and the

Dawn Champagne not human verified

students but ultimately the the adults in the room are going to have a lot of

Dawn Champagne not human verified

pressure on them to make sure everyone's following the rule and are they going to be in trouble for

Dawn Champagne not human verified

you know missing somebody with a apple watch that they didn't turn off or they didn't take off their

Unknown speaker not human verified

wrist i'm also not going to be able to give you a direct answer on that i don't think anyone's going

Unknown speaker not human verified

to be in trouble for missing something you know that was you know something that was accidental

Unknown speaker not human verified

or because areas were focused elsewhere.

Unknown speaker not human verified

But again, I think that's something

Unknown speaker not human verified

we're gonna have to work out with the principals

Unknown speaker not human verified

and teachers and administrators,

Unknown speaker not human verified

maybe during those PD days at the beginning of the year,

Unknown speaker not human verified

through ongoing conversations

Unknown speaker not human verified

on what this looks like in rollout

Unknown speaker not human verified

and how really to help our students

Unknown speaker not human verified

and our parents understand what that looks like

Unknown speaker not human verified

if they bring and use those devices

Unknown speaker not human verified

during that instructional time

Unknown speaker not human verified

or areas that they're not designated in.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So really, the next step after this is approved

Unknown speaker not human verified

would be communicating out as much as possible

Unknown speaker not human verified

so that everyone can kind of know what those next steps look like

Unknown speaker not human verified

and what those consequences could be.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So hopefully we can get students and parents to understand what that looks like

Unknown speaker not human verified

to help alleviate the need for some of that discernment

Unknown speaker not human verified

during the instructional day once school starts.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

All right.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I don't really feel like my questions were answered,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and I'm sorry for putting you...

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mrs. Ashmore, I'm happy to assist on the school leadership side.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So I think if we go back to the original intent of the student one-to-one class device was to issue a device to all students so that would remove the cell phones as a bring your own device within the classroom because those tend to be where the distractions were occurring.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So the goal was that every student have a Chromebook, the ease with which the teacher could implement that into the classroom with instruction because everybody's using the same device.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's kind of segued off into the other items that students sometimes bring to school, which does include wearing the Apple Watches.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It has been historically our information that we have and those of us that are on the campuses, the watches were never the distraction in the classroom.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It was the phones and using them as their device.

Unknown speaker not human verified

That's what the Chromebooks will take care of.

Unknown speaker not human verified

When it comes to the watches, there are certain times, especially at the high school campuses when they're doing certain types of testing, the teachers will say we need to put any type of smart watch or Apple Watch away for that type of testing.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And the students have proven historically to follow those directions.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So, the classroom poster is just kind of a reinforcement that these items will be put

Unknown speaker not human verified

up, but at times they're not going to be policing the watches other than if there's a certain

Unknown speaker not human verified

testing requirement on that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

They haven't been a distraction.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It was the cell phones using those as a device within the classroom.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Okay, but can I go on?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Because in the discipline management guide, it lists the watches in the same sentence

Dawn Champagne not human verified

with the cell phones.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So, it's, to me, it has the same equal meaning that all telecommunications, including Apple

Dawn Champagne not human verified

watches and smartphones and, you know, everything, you know, will have to be turned off or put

Dawn Champagne not human verified

away or however.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So, I mean, I understand what you're saying because as far as I'm concerned, Apple, that's

Dawn Champagne not human verified

why I'm bringing this up because I don't really think it should be in the same sentence.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I don't think it should be in the same category because as the owner of an Apple watch

Dawn Champagne not human verified

It's very hard to text on here. You can just do like little one word. Yes. No, okay

Dawn Champagne not human verified

You can't listen to it without the earbuds and those are prohibited

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and

Dawn Champagne not human verified

What else I mean you could you know, like I said you could get a message

Dawn Champagne not human verified

But you can basically only just say a one word things back to it

Dawn Champagne not human verified

If you sat there and tried to text me is very very obvious what you're doing because it you have to write it out

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So that's why I brought this up. It's because I just don't think it, the Apple Watch needs to be put in the same sentence as the cell phone.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Because a lot of people have given their kids Apple Watches as their watch. They don't have another watch, or they may have another watch, but this is their watch, and they've gotten it for their Christmas present or their birthday present.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And now to be told, you know, we can't use the Apple Watch.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I'm trying to find the sentence that it's in.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Mr. President.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Ms. Fox.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Mrs. Champagne, if I could add to this while you're looking that up.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I agree with what Mrs. Hack is saying, and I think essentially what Mrs. Champagne is saying,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

that an Apple Watch is not really the distraction that the phone is.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Because, you know, you had the phone underneath, you can very quickly,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And this is, if they're doing something with the watch, you can't hide it.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

A teacher would be easily see it and say, put that down or take it off, right?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Or put it on whatever the silent mode is that I put mine on all the time and I don't know I have, right?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

So, but I'm not a teenager.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I can't use it the way they do, right?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

That's what I think is that I agree with what Mrs. Champagne is saying, that maybe the strike through, yes, you don't use that to communicate.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Kate and I don't think taking it up or putting it away is wise because of what

Rebecca Fox not human verified

mrs. champagne was saying the damage that would happen and that's not what we

Rebecca Fox not human verified

were talking about so when we talked about it last week sounded like a really

Rebecca Fox not human verified

good idea oh yeah Apple Watchers those are out too but as as I'm getting

Rebecca Fox not human verified

feedback I think maybe that's not quite the same level as a cell phone okay

Rebecca Fox not human verified

maybe it's wording I have found I have found a sentence I mean let me just add

Unknown speaker not human verified

if you don't mind I don't have an Apple watch but I see my wife has one I see

Unknown speaker not human verified

her reading messages a lot on her Apple watch isn't that the issue is to be

Unknown speaker not human verified

receiving messages or receiving information potentially on an Apple

Unknown speaker not human verified

watch like doing testing I think that's and it can be distracting receiving data

Unknown speaker not human verified

or information or what have you so it's not so much like a long conversation but

Unknown speaker not human verified

just receiving information on the Apple watch in the classroom I think that's

Unknown speaker not human verified

I think that continues to be an issue.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I'm sorry, but for me, I thought, you know, basically, you know,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

even Mrs. Calhoun was talking about last week, and I agree with her,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

you know, looking at social media and all that, and that is almost,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I don't know, maybe there is a way to see it,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

but I haven't seen social media on my Apple Watch.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I've seen text, yes, but not social media.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And so I always just assumed that that was the issue,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and it's hard to communicate.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Yes, you can read messages, but it's very hard to write back.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And anyway, in this sentence, and I agree with you, Ms. Hackett,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

except it's all in the same sentence.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

It says telecommunication devices are defined as items such as, but not limited to,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

cell phones, smartphones, smart watches, electronic readers, and laptops

Dawn Champagne not human verified

with the capability of sending and receiving messages or information

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and any related accessories, including, but not limited to, wires, headphones, and ear clips.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So when they're talking about, so that's the definition of telecommunication devices,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

devices and then they go on to say that they're not that they're not allowed so

Dawn Champagne not human verified

all of it's not allowed it's a to me it's all you know everything in that

Dawn Champagne not human verified

sentence is not allowed so that includes smart watches and Apple watches of

Dawn Champagne not human verified

course those other things are easy to identify you know earbuds or are you

Dawn Champagne not human verified

know laptops and cell phones those are all easily identifiable things it's not

Dawn Champagne not human verified

necessarily easily too easy to identify someone show me their smart watch of

Dawn Champagne not human verified

the day and it just looked like a regular watch so it's you know we're

Dawn Champagne not human verified

gonna make the kids with the knowing you know Apple watch but there's a way but

Dawn Champagne not human verified

then how do you know the other ones aren't being put away so I understand

Dawn Champagne not human verified

what you're saying I just wish that that wasn't I wish there was a little bit

Dawn Champagne not human verified

more discretion given especially in high school for the Apple watches because

Dawn Champagne not human verified

they are expensive and I think that it is a parent choice to give a child an

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Apple watch and you wouldn't give a watch to you know a younger child

Dawn Champagne not human verified

probably because you're thinking that that older child has responsibility to

Dawn Champagne not human verified

take care of an expensive item so I just I just wish that there was that was a

Dawn Champagne not human verified

different differentiation in that and I think that there's going to be some

Dawn Champagne not human verified

some issues with that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr. President?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Ms. Grizella?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Can I add to the conversation?

Unknown speaker not human verified

I support the way this is written,

Unknown speaker not human verified

and I just want to offer a few comments.

Unknown speaker not human verified

There are clocks in the hallways and in every classroom,

Unknown speaker not human verified

correct?

Unknown speaker not human verified

On our campuses, generally.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So if a kid needs to know what time it is,

Unknown speaker not human verified

just like I'm looking up at this clock,

Unknown speaker not human verified

they're able to do that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And the goal of this is to remove any distraction

Unknown speaker not human verified

from learning in the classroom and as an adult if I'm gonna get an Apple watch or

Unknown speaker not human verified

give a kid one it's because I want to email and communicate that's the goal I

Unknown speaker not human verified

mean as far as I know correct me if I'm wrong you can check the time on it but

Unknown speaker not human verified

for sure if you're gonna pay your steps and all that sure but you don't have to

Unknown speaker not human verified

have it communicating on an Apple watch for that you can buy something else that

Unknown speaker not human verified

is doesn't have email and communication ability right so the purpose of an

Unknown speaker not human verified

apple watch the the big why you're paying the big bucks is you can get your emails and that is i

Unknown speaker not human verified

agree with trustee uh president perez that would be distracting having to i mean that's why you're

Unknown speaker not human verified

looking at it to see what came through so it's a distraction and i think it will become more of a

Unknown speaker not human verified

distraction uh without phones we've removed the phones and so now those watches are going to be

Unknown speaker not human verified

watched continually because that's their email stream from their friends so um

Dawn Champagne not human verified

yeah can i ask can i add please but when you turn your phone off you can't get your text messages

Dawn Champagne not human verified

so we're going to have the phones turned off like they should be right that i agree with then they

Dawn Champagne not human verified

shouldn't be getting their text messages i think the way it's written the phone will be i'm going

Unknown speaker not human verified

to go ahead and recognize i'm going to go ahead and recognize miss team in the classroom mr amy

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr. Perez, I move that the Board of Trustees approve the 2024-2025 Discipline Management Plan and Student Code of Conduct.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Do we have a second?

Unknown speaker not human verified

I second.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Second.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Do we have any other discussion?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr. President.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr. Redden.

Lance Redmon not human verified

Specifically in the conversation we're having, I do think the initial intent when everything started was to remove phones.

Lance Redmon not human verified

I know teachers that buy Apple watches for their kids so that they're able to contact them because

Lance Redmon not human verified

while they're in a meeting at the end of school they're not able to do that they're not able to

Lance Redmon not human verified

get a hold of their kid and that I think there are some things they've got the gizmo watches

Lance Redmon not human verified

and stuff that they're not actively making phone calls that they are actually used for their

Lance Redmon not human verified

intended purpose when I've talked to principals I've specifically asked you're limiting phone

Lance Redmon not human verified

phone use Apple watches are a problem now and they kind of laughed at me they're like they're not

Lance Redmon not human verified

and so I don't know if it's a a good compromise to just say and we roll with that and then trustee

Lance Redmon not human verified

Colin mentioned last week hey you know she'd like to see if we could maybe make it more strict next

Lance Redmon not human verified

year uh from junior high to high school uh maybe this is one of those things that we pay attention

Lance Redmon not human verified

to this year and then move forward with so it's about two cents thank you any other questions or

Rebecca Fox not human verified

comments mr president my con this box can go either way but my concern with

Rebecca Fox not human verified

removing the Apple watch or sorry the smart watch of any kind removing it at

Rebecca Fox not human verified

having children remove it is the damage that can happen to this is way different

Rebecca Fox not human verified

than a than a cell phone with protective covers and things and now we're gonna

Rebecca Fox not human verified

have people thing we you mean broke my kids watch and because you made it take

Rebecca Fox not human verified

take it off. I agree, Mr. Redmond. Maybe we could watch and see how it does and then make it

Rebecca Fox not human verified

stricter later. We could say that you don't communicate on it. So if a teacher sees them

Dawn Champagne not human verified

communicating on it, remove it. Any other comments? Yes, I would just like to add,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

since you don't have an Apple Watch, I would just like to add they are very breakable.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and I just see you know even if you ask the kid to put it in there in their

Dawn Champagne not human verified

backpack and kids forget things that are in their backpack they throw other

Dawn Champagne not human verified

things in there that or you can have a place in the front you know but when you

Dawn Champagne not human verified

walk in to put them to the side and they're all gonna get thrown around

Dawn Champagne not human verified

together and I just see this as being possibly a costly thing so especially

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Especially in high school, we're allowing them to have their devices in passing periods,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and at lunch, more than likely, they're going to continue to wear their smart watches

Dawn Champagne not human verified

because sometimes they can use them, and a lot of kids have after-school things

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and things like that.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

They'll be in band or choir or football or whatever they're in,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

so they're not going to not bring their Apple watches and their smart watches to school.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And I'm just a little bit fearful of our liability of those watches breaking.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Mr. President, is it possible that we could say don't use them, but you don't have to remove it?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Is that possible?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Because does the language currently say, Ms. Ashhorn, that they'll all be put away and out of sight?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

If that is it, that's the objection I would have.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

but if they could have them on but if you're seen using it it will be you'll

Rebecca Fox not human verified

be asked to remove it how about something that says they will it says I

Unknown speaker not human verified

think the language says they will not use telecommunications devices and use

Unknown speaker not human verified

in classrooms devices must be turned off and put away during instructional time

Unknown speaker not human verified

between school start and end time so put away is the problem could we do

Rebecca Fox not human verified

something about the watch that says not use because mr. president that to turn

Dawn Champagne not human verified

it off so they can turn they can turn it off okay anybody can turn it off but

Dawn Champagne not human verified

then the teacher would have to walk around and look at each each person's

Dawn Champagne not human verified

hey you know risk to make sure is off so the only other way to ensure that

Dawn Champagne not human verified

they're not using it is to is to put it away so there that's all you know if if

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I know that 39% of teens have Apple watches and another percentage have smart

Dawn Champagne not human verified

smartwatches, I don't even, you know, even if it's just 50%, so one out of two teens

Dawn Champagne not human verified

have some kind of smartwatch, at least.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So they're going to have to go and check everyone's wrist to make sure that it's off.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Well, first of all, they're going to have to check and make sure what kind of watch is it.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And then if it is one, they're going to have to turn it off or put it away.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I don't know.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I tend to think the teacher can handle it a lot more easily than what you're describing.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

at their discretion but the burden becomes on teachers to police it and

Rebecca Fox not human verified

that's just time away from instruction if kids aren't really using it and they

Rebecca Fox not human verified

have said that it isn't a problem could we could we have language just a small

Rebecca Fox not human verified

language change in there that says they has to be turned off and not used on the

Rebecca Fox not human verified

smart or just don't use the smart watch and see how it goes because if you're

Rebecca Fox not human verified

asking teachers to walk around and see is yours a smart because yours not are

Rebecca Fox not human verified

you using it that you know I don't he's very good about saying don't put

Unknown speaker not human verified

burdens on yeah but I don't think that's what it's saying I'm sorry mr. it's put

Unknown speaker not human verified

away I don't think that's what it's saying I think I think what mrs.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Ashmore said was that one second was that you each campus was going to decide

Rebecca Fox not human verified

how they were going to implement it it says put away she just read the language

Rebecca Fox not human verified

said put away and that's the those are the two words that we're talking about

Rebecca Fox not human verified

here is to be removed and to put away and not used is that what that says if

Unknown speaker not human verified

the device is a telecommunication device with the demand would be put away so if

Rebecca Fox not human verified

we could change that the smartwatch doesn't have to be removed but still not

Rebecca Fox not human verified

used somehow I mean your language so isn't it more difficult for the teacher

Unknown speaker not human verified

to monitor at monitor it if the kids all have watches on and she doesn't know

Unknown speaker not human verified

which ones are being used in a certain way which ones have certain capabilities in which it causes

Unknown speaker not human verified

her to have to like or him to figure out which ones are an issue versus everybody having watches

Unknown speaker not human verified

right because only smart people have if they're all worrying them all the smart ones have to be

Rebecca Fox not human verified

as opposed to if they're not wearing them at all but if if she sees she or he sees a child using it

Rebecca Fox not human verified

It's like put that away and a second whatever the consequences are right. It would be easy for them to see them using a watch

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Not like a phone

Unknown speaker not human verified

Can I make a comment

Unknown speaker not human verified

Since we're gonna continue to have the discussion

Unknown speaker not human verified

The easiest

Unknown speaker not human verified

idea I would assume for our junior high and

Unknown speaker not human verified

in elementary school, which I can't imagine somebody giving an elementary school child an Apple Watch,

Unknown speaker not human verified

but, you know, stranger things, don't bring it to school.

Unknown speaker not human verified

If you don't want the watch to get broken, if you don't want the watch to get taken up,

Unknown speaker not human verified

don't bring it to school.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's a telecommunications device.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It emits or receives messages, which could be used to have communications with someone in another classroom,

Unknown speaker not human verified

someone who went to the bathroom, who turned their watch on, who's now communicating through the watch to send a message.

Unknown speaker not human verified

There's a lot of things that you could use the watch to communicate through.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So the easiest thing to do is to abide by the policy, abide by the discipline management plan, and don't bring the watch to school.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Just like we're saying, don't bring your phone to school or don't have it on you, don't have it on, then don't bring the watch to school.

Unknown speaker not human verified

school. Get an analog, regular, old school watch if you need to have something on your wrist.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I don't know. Then do that. If you want to count your steps, get a Garmin. I mean, like,

Unknown speaker not human verified

this, okay, then get a pedometer. Like, get something if you're watching your steps and

Unknown speaker not human verified

you're 11. Then attach it to you and do it. Just don't bring the watch to school.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's that simple. It's not hard. I think we're over

Unknown speaker not human verified

Complicating this issue and I'm not sure why because there's a very easy answer

Unknown speaker not human verified

abide by the rules

Unknown speaker not human verified

Don't bring the watch to school and you're good. You don't have to worry about the watch getting broken or stolen or anything

Unknown speaker not human verified

Don't bring it

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr. President

Dawn Champagne not human verified

But mrs. Calhoun you mentioned elementary and junior high and I agree with you with that, but I'm talking about high school

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So I don't think I agree with you that with that. So with high school, do they are given a little bit more leeway during passing periods and for right now and lunch and before and after school is what I'm talking about.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I feel like that you're kind of making my point that where I was coming from, from the get-go of why we needed a stricter policy, not just for junior high, not just for elementary school, but for our schools across the board, to not have any telecommunications devices even in high school.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Because it's too difficult to have all of these different levels.

Unknown speaker not human verified

If anything, I think the policy should be stricter.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I don't think you should have cell phones at a high school level.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I don't think you should have smart watches at a high school level. I think it's distracting

Unknown speaker not human verified

I think it's used for other instances in the classroom that I've listed in the prior meeting that you can go online you can

Unknown speaker not human verified

Research the science yourself to see what kids do what it does to their brain development, which I've already gone through

Unknown speaker not human verified

I think that you could do that. So I think what you're saying only

Unknown speaker not human verified

Bolsters the argument you shouldn't have the telecommunication device period dot K through 12 bell to bell

Dawn Champagne not human verified

shouldn't be on it sounds like you're agreeing with me and I have the right to

Dawn Champagne not human verified

defend myself because I you can watch the tape I said I agree with you for

Dawn Champagne not human verified

elementary and junior high and that's what you had mentioned when you very

Dawn Champagne not human verified

first started talking about this I'm saying for high school so no I'm not

Dawn Champagne not human verified

agreeing with you for K through 12 I'm agreeing with you for K through 8 but

Dawn Champagne not human verified

but not through 9 through 12.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So I think it's the kids are getting older.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Their parents have, you know, you say you're for parental rights.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

The parents have decided that their child is old enough to handle an Apple Watch,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and I feel like we should respect the decisions of the parents.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Okay, so.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Do we have any, can we.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I will make one more comment, and then I'm done.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Ms. Keltner.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So towards that end, so you're talking about high school students

Unknown speaker not human verified

who you feel like have the autonomy and the responsibility capabilities to make these decisions for themselves

Unknown speaker not human verified

and to abide by the rules with everything else that we set forth with them being able to have access to their cell phones

Unknown speaker not human verified

whenever they want, and that's fine.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Okay.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So we're okay with that, but when we're asking them to abide by a simple rule that a teacher says,

Unknown speaker not human verified

hey, at the beginning of the year, turn your Apple Watch off.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Don't use it during class.

Unknown speaker not human verified

turn it off that now that's not what the policy says the policy says to remove it

Unknown speaker not human verified

so we're asking that's too much for them to just not bring it so that's that can

Unknown speaker not human verified

have their cell phone and they can have their Apple watch but like I don't

Unknown speaker not human verified

understand I'm I would like I would like the policy to say to turn it off so I

Unknown speaker not human verified

would like that okay so right now the policy says don't bring the watch to

Unknown speaker not human verified

school or remove it remove it and put it away we put it away and remove it or put it away okay so

Unknown speaker not human verified

my argument still stands don't bring it to school it's that simple but i already have it every child

Unknown speaker not human verified

already has a cell phone let's do this do we have any other comments anything new that we're saying

Unknown speaker not human verified

that's a quick comment most teenagers please correct me if i'm wrong i think you agree with me

Unknown speaker not human verified

have a cell phone already they've got the cell phone they're going to have in their backpack

Unknown speaker not human verified

back at school and they have a watch you're saying 39 of them so i think we're good they can whip out

Unknown speaker not human verified

their phone during passing periods and at lunch if that's the campus administration's decision to

Unknown speaker not human verified

check their messages if they need to so they will be able to do that and i would leave the watch at

Unknown speaker not human verified

home the watch is meant to check and discreetly check your emails it's for just discretion very

Unknown speaker not human verified

discreetly that's what that's one of the main purposes of why they they market them i like

Rebecca Fox not human verified

the policy the way it's written mr president i have a quick comment mine was not about allowing

Rebecca Fox not human verified

children to do it it's about not putting the burden on teachers to have to police

Rebecca Fox not human verified

which watch who has it out that was it i just think it's a burden on teachers if children

Rebecca Fox not human verified

choose to wear a watch they're not going to leave it at home and then teachers have to say if that's

Rebecca Fox not human verified

a smart watch if to put it away it's just a waste of instructional time mr president my last thing

Lance Redmon not human verified

to add was mr redmond in five years on the board i haven't had families approach me saying there was

Lance Redmon not human verified

a specific policy we're going they're just not going to pay attention to the cell phone policy

Lance Redmon not human verified

they they were good with every the way it was written the only the only part that i started

Lance Redmon not human verified

to receive feedback that said my kids weren't it anyway so figure it out had

Lance Redmon not human verified

to do with the watches and so reason I was bringing that up was to say we've

Lance Redmon not human verified

got a policy talking about devices phones that is there achieves 90% of

Lance Redmon not human verified

what we want and then there's this one little argument that on a watch that we

Lance Redmon not human verified

don't really have consensus on the board it seems to make sense to watch it and

Lance Redmon not human verified

And then make a decision after that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Prior to now, we had, since kids were bringing in their cell phone for sometimes instructional use,

Unknown speaker not human verified

how were we dealing with the watches?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Because we never allowed cell phones unless it was under supervision of the teacher for instructional purposes, correct?

Unknown speaker not human verified

correct? And what about the watches? The violation would be the same. So if they were using a

Unknown speaker not human verified

telecommunication device during that instructional time, not at the direction of a teacher, then they

Unknown speaker not human verified

could be referred for disciplinary consequence on the third or subsequent action. The watch thing

Unknown speaker not human verified

is not new. No, no. But I would say just based on the feedback that I've received, just kind of,

Unknown speaker not human verified

you know through conversations here and there um the focus is on cell phones it's not really on the

Unknown speaker not human verified

watches um that you know the cell using the cell phones was the more apparent problem that i would

Unknown speaker not human verified

say were in classrooms not necessarily the problems with the watches could you repeat that

Unknown speaker not human verified

again that last just based on my the feedback i've received just from you know various phone

Unknown speaker not human verified

calls throughout the school year i would say that the concern was mainly with um from administrators

Unknown speaker not human verified

the concern was over the cell phones um i did not receive a lot of phone calls about the watches

Unknown speaker not human verified

that wasn't necessarily the focus of those concerns.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So my guesstimate would be that those telecommunication device infractions

Unknown speaker not human verified

that were occurring and being referred to administration were probably primarily cell phones.

Unknown speaker not human verified

But our school leadership team could probably confirm if they've heard anything different.

Unknown speaker not human verified

But I do think cell phones was the main focus.

Unknown speaker not human verified

But it would have been included together.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And the earbuds, sorry, the earbuds and the watches have always been in the definition of telecommunication devices.

Unknown speaker not human verified

If they're being used to emit or transmit a communication.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Right.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So this is not new.

Unknown speaker not human verified

No.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Yeah.

Unknown speaker not human verified

You couldn't, yeah.

Unknown speaker not human verified

You would not be allowed to send a message from your Apple Watch during class.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Right.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So would that, as far as that part of the policy, it's the same.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Right.

Unknown speaker not human verified

You would not, we would not allow you to use it during instructional time.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We haven't changed that? No. The language is the same. Okay.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Okay. No, but, no, it is not, it's not, I'm sorry, it's not the same because it's in

Dawn Champagne not human verified

the same sentence where the telecommunication is all of the things

Dawn Champagne not human verified

that's in the same sentence. You're gonna have the same consequence. They have to

Dawn Champagne not human verified

be put away. They can't be used. And so now the teacher is going to have to make

Dawn Champagne not human verified

sure that everybody has their cell phone, their smartwatch is turned off or put

Dawn Champagne not human verified

put away. They're going to have to make sure of that because of the way the policy is written.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Right. So previously at elementary and still currently at elementary, right, they're not

Unknown speaker not human verified

allowed to possess a telecommunication device, which would be including the smartwatches.

Unknown speaker not human verified

But I'm only talking about high school. Right. And so for high school, you could be in possession

Unknown speaker not human verified

of those, but they couldn't be used as a telecommunication device during that instructional

Dawn Champagne not human verified

time. But now they have to be put away. Right. That's the new recommended language. Right.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So now they have to be put away. They used to not just be able to be used, but now they have

Unknown speaker not human verified

to be put away right they cannot be used as that telecommunic that sending receiving emitting

Unknown speaker not human verified

signals and communications okay okay any other comments okay we have a uh a motion

Unknown speaker not human verified

it's been moved and seconded that the board trustees approves the 2024-2025

Unknown speaker not human verified

discipline management plan and student code of conduct we will now proceed to vote board

Unknown speaker not human verified

Board members, please record your vote on the screen via your keypad.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Motion passes six with one abstention.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Thank you.

8.1 Discuss and consider action related to the addition of the Benchmark Years of Service One-Time Lump Sum payment for classroom teachers.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We will now move to 8.1,

Unknown speaker not human verified

which we agreed last time would be separated from the compensation plan,

Unknown speaker not human verified

which has already been approved.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So 8.1 is to discuss and consider action related to the addition of the benchmark years of service one-time lump sum payment for classroom teachers.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So I'd like to kind of make some remarks, introductory remarks on this topic, 8.1.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Last week, Mr. Schuss presented a proposal, just to bring everybody up to speed, for a

Unknown speaker not human verified

new plan to pay classroom teachers a one-time lump sum payment for benchmark years of service.

Unknown speaker not human verified

For example, like every five years beginning in year five and every five years thereafter

Unknown speaker not human verified

with the amounts increasing every five years, like years five, 10, 15, and so on.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The idea is to provide some extra reward for teachers to come to and stay with KDISD and

Unknown speaker not human verified

for recognition of those teachers for loyalty, etc.

Unknown speaker not human verified

In other words, some sort of acknowledgement and incentive.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr. Schaaf attributed the genesis of this based on the discussions that we've had, the

Unknown speaker not human verified

initiative discussions between the administration and the teacher retention committee.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The Board did not reach agreement on this last week and this Board did discuss various options and various amounts such as, for example, one example of the options was to begin that program after year 10 and then pay it.

Unknown speaker not human verified

For example, if you're in the year 11, year 12, you would receive the year 10 payment, etc. That kind of thing.

Unknown speaker not human verified

not just in benchmark years.

Unknown speaker not human verified

But that structure is expensive.

Unknown speaker not human verified

One of the challenges in doing this is that we are in a budget deficit for 2024 and 2025,

Unknown speaker not human verified

and we just approved a 3% raise across the board.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Therefore, due to financial constraints,

Unknown speaker not human verified

initially the benchmark payments may have to be relatively small,

Unknown speaker not human verified

but we could put the program in place and increase the amounts as financial conditions improve.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Hopefully and perhaps when we get increased funding for public education from the state

Unknown speaker not human verified

So we have three options in my view on this matter that I'd like to throw out

Unknown speaker not human verified

One is to continue kind of the

Unknown speaker not human verified

The back and forth what about this? What about that? What about this amount? What about paying it this way that way?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Ad nauseum throwing out different ideas as far as specific structure and amounts

Unknown speaker not human verified

Two would be to kind of throw up our hands and say, hey, we tried, let's shelve it for

Unknown speaker not human verified

now.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This would be a shame because this program I think is a good thing for features and for

Unknown speaker not human verified

the district and we should be able to get it done.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It shouldn't be divisive.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The third option which I'm recommending is to have a focused special luncheon workshop

Unknown speaker not human verified

workshop meeting sometime soon to discuss this and sit together as a board and hammer

Unknown speaker not human verified

it out similar to when we have like a strategic design meeting like we've done in the past.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I'd like to do this.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's important that we get it right.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The focus would be on teacher retention and recognition within the financial constraints

Unknown speaker not human verified

we have.

Unknown speaker not human verified

have. In my view, the budget situation limits us to a cost of less than $1 million in total

Unknown speaker not human verified

in year one. I would hope this is a program we could continue to the future with greater

Unknown speaker not human verified

amounts in the future depending upon the financial situation at the time and with the state's

Unknown speaker not human verified

done and our budget situation. So that's what I'd like to propose is that we agree

Unknown speaker not human verified

agree that to handle this via a special luncheon workshop meeting sometime soon

Unknown speaker not human verified

to kind of sit together as a board and exchange ideas and kind of hammer it out

Unknown speaker not human verified

miss Fox

Unknown speaker not human verified

I appreciate hearing.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

There it is.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Mr. President, thank you very much.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I appreciate your recommendation.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I like it.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I'm not sure.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Here's my recommendation, what I had thought about recommending tonight.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And that is to, I believe each of us feels like this would be really good.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

This is what teachers talk to me about.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

This is what they really want.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And we're all hearing from different people.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And you're exactly right.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

We've already gone 3% raise instead of 2%.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

So that really could be considered their 1% more, and it goes to their base.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I know teachers, our staff is very appreciative of the 3%.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

It really did make our budget very tight, and so to do another almost million dollars,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

we should consider very carefully as we look at that.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

My thought is this, if you'll hear me out.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

What if we did another sampling of teachers?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Let's have my recommendation.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Let's have the teacher retention committee work with Dr. Grooms and K-12 and design a

Rebecca Fox not human verified

survey that everyone gets because everyone, they're incredible and the teacher retention

Rebecca Fox not human verified

committee could work with Dr. Grooms, what the questions are going to be, how we get

Rebecca Fox not human verified

quality information, not quality, but a quantity and quality of information from our teachers

Rebecca Fox not human verified

and just say, we have, you know, you had a million dollars, what makes your life better?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Is it money? Is it $250 going to keep you here? Or is it more time in your day? Maybe it's less pulling you for duty or all the things that we hear through your survey and through anecdotal conversations.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

if we were to do a survey and include them,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

because what I know from years of sitting here

Rebecca Fox not human verified

is when we ask them, they appreciate the input,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

and then if they don't get their way,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

they understand that collectively,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

that the teachers have told us, we work for them,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

we're their representatives, same with the community,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

so that we would have their input,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

and then we could make decisions that they said

Rebecca Fox not human verified

They really care more about the quality of their day or the time in their day or whatever that looks like.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And I think you can find those questions you want to ask from them.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

The survey you sent, we got finally, after many requests, all the board now has that information from your survey.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And there were some good questions in there.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

There was some good feedback in there, but it was very limited from the number of people

Rebecca Fox not human verified

when we have 7,000 teachers, right?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

So what if we did that?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And one more recommendation from that is because as the president, you will see that.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

You will see what the questions are.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

You will see the feedback, those kinds of things.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

What if you would consider adding Mr. Redmond to the committee because his wife was a teacher,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

He runs a business.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

He's a master trustee.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

He understands the education and the role of trustee,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

and he has lots of teacher connections.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

What if he helps develop the questions

Rebecca Fox not human verified

and works with your teacher retention committee,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

and then you as president would be the recipient of the work that they do?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Because I know you cannot put four people on a committee.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

That's my recommendation.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This isn't about being in terms of hearing stuff,

Unknown speaker not human verified

stuff, but we just, we know, we know that there's lots of other factors besides compensation.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We know that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I mean, everybody knows that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Whether that be discipline, whether that be in terms of demands on their time, a lot of

Unknown speaker not human verified

paperwork, etc., not getting respected, all those kind of things.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We know that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We know that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is, this is really very focused.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is just one little element which has to do with just recognition of loyalty, acknowledging,

Unknown speaker not human verified

trying to provide a little more incentive to stay with KDISD, maybe to come to KDISD.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's not a lot of money right now, but hopefully as our finances improve, maybe we get relief

Unknown speaker not human verified

from the state in terms of increasing the basic allotment, which we all want, we can

Unknown speaker not human verified

do more.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So this is just focused on this one program, this one plan that has been submitted as a result of, you know, we all know that this is not everything.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

It's not going to solve everything.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Right, but what if that $1 million could provide something that would really give them equality to their job, which would also retain them and attract them?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

them what if what if the 1 million dollars instead of 50 dollars per year

Rebecca Fox not human verified

of service would be we'd much rather have this support or this piece you I

Rebecca Fox not human verified

think you'll it may I think it will probably turn out to be the bonus

Rebecca Fox not human verified

whatever this looks like it's not called a bonus in education but you know one

Rebecca Fox not human verified

time lump sum they they love it we've done it many times in the past and then

Rebecca Fox not human verified

WE ROLLED IT INTO THE BASE BECAUSE THE SURVEY WAS VERY CLOSE, LIKE ALMOST 50-50.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

SOME PEOPLE WANTED TO KEEP IT AS A ONE-TIME LUMP, SOME BECAUSE IT COMES IN VERY, IT'S

Rebecca Fox not human verified

VERY NICE TO HAVE A BIG LUMP AT ONE TIME WHERE YOU CAN DO SOMETHING BIG WITH IT.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

BUT THE MAJORITY SAID, NO, WE WANT IT TO OUR BASE BECAUSE THAT BUILDS ON OUR, RIGHT?

Unknown speaker not human verified

SURE, AND THE 3% AND THE ADDITIONAL 1% GOES TO THE BASE AND IT'S WORTH A LOT MORE.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

RIGHT.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

AND SO WE'VE ALREADY DONE THAT, RIGHT?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

What if the million dollars that we have to spend could go toward their quality of life and only we will know if we don't hear from them, Mr. President, we're making a decision for them, not that we think they want, but they haven't really given us input.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr. President, I do feel like we've heard from quite a few.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So I do like your idea of doing a workshop and maybe setting some parameters, and we just need to hammer something out.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I would like for this to not be divisive.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I would like for it to be unifying.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And so in hopes of being a unifying policy that could maybe go through long term,

Unknown speaker not human verified

I would say I'm willing to give up extra time to work in a workshop to get this done

Unknown speaker not human verified

But I

Unknown speaker not human verified

Think we need some parameters. Yeah. Well the parameters are that we number one

Unknown speaker not human verified

it's focused on teachers on teacher retention loyalty acknowledgement, whatever you want to call it and

Unknown speaker not human verified

Also, we have to stay within certain budgetary constraints

Unknown speaker not human verified

And I come up with the million dollars just basically because that's close to an amount

Unknown speaker not human verified

that we have now in the budget already for this, kind of a placeholder for this program,

Unknown speaker not human verified

so that the million dollars is not, wouldn't take our budget out of line, you know, wouldn't

Unknown speaker not human verified

hurt our budget.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So that's where I'm coming up with that, that we have to recognize that right now there

Unknown speaker not human verified

are limits in terms of the budget but that we try to put together a structure that we

Unknown speaker not human verified

think makes sense and hopefully we can increase it down the line.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And this is one piece of teacher satisfaction.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We know there's a lot of other important ones and we're not trying to address everything

Unknown speaker not human verified

with this one thing.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is just a compensation element, a small one, but a compensation element.

Unknown speaker not human verified

That's it. It's not trying to address everything that teachers may want in terms of their job satisfaction, work quality, etc., that kind of thing.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So I just want us to get together and work on, say, different models, different amounts, whatever you want to call it, and get this piece of it done.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I think it's a positive, and we don't need to hold that up in order to ask teachers a survey on everything under the sun.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's just focused on compensation. Mr. President. I think we address the other issues

Unknown speaker not human verified

when I did a presentation

Unknown speaker not human verified

summing up our

Unknown speaker not human verified

Committee doing that committee report. I think that's where we address some of the other issues like time and

Unknown speaker not human verified

in our

Unknown speaker not human verified

You know work professional in our relationships with supervisors and other teachers that kind of thing conference periods

Unknown speaker not human verified

planning period. So we address those other issues then. So this is just, I'm just reiterating, Mr. Perez, that that is, this is just one of those details that we have been addressing as a committee.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Mr. President, Mrs. Teamey, may I just request, Mrs. Teamey, how many people did you talk to in your survey?

Unknown speaker not human verified

I don't.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I think you said 50 in the past.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

No, more than 50.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

How many more?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I don't know.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Well, where's your data?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Okay, so.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

You have the data.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Okay, right. So 50 or 60 people to represent 7,000. And how many asked for a longevity reward of those? You said they did. I'm just...

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Mr. I'm sorry.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I'm almost finished. No, ma'am. Hold on one second. I'm coming. I just don't think you have quality information. I've seen the survey.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

the questions are good but they're k12 would do any survey for us and they

Rebecca Fox not human verified

would be completely I just didn't protect with yours with your you did not

Rebecca Fox not human verified

do the survey in a way that protected the information gathered okay well with

Unknown speaker not human verified

each valve the questions a lot of for free that we came that we came up with

Unknown speaker not human verified

or from the TEA website so I I did we did a lot of research coming up with

Rebecca Fox not human verified

those questions so I don't know what answers did you find for arts what

Rebecca Fox not human verified

answers do you have for teachers about the concerns they had you've already

Rebecca Fox not human verified

addressed them you said so what did you do to protect them from going to ours

Rebecca Fox not human verified

protected their planning it was you can I refer you to our board meeting these

Unknown speaker not human verified

are recommendations that were made to the administration that these are some

Unknown speaker not human verified

of the things that we came up with and and she made a presentation that the

Unknown speaker not human verified

The idea here is not to revisit the whole teacher retention

Unknown speaker not human verified

committee.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We know that this is, again, as I've said many times,

Unknown speaker not human verified

that we are here to address one thing.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And I said, let's get together again and hammer out a plan

Unknown speaker not human verified

here in order to reward some loyalty,

Unknown speaker not human verified

acknowledge teachers that have been with us, et cetera.

Unknown speaker not human verified

That's all we're doing here in this particular agenda item.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's not about the entire teacher retention committee.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's not about addressing all the issues that teachers have.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We know there's a lot of other issues that teachers have in terms of job satisfaction.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We know that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Everybody knows that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is not a survey, by the way.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is more like sitting down with 50, 60, however many teachers and gaining insight

Unknown speaker not human verified

insight from them in terms of what's what's what's uh what helped them in their job satisfaction it

Unknown speaker not human verified

wasn't like a mathematical survey if you were like you're thinking about it was more like

Unknown speaker not human verified

conversations to gain some insight into what teachers are thinking that's and you know and

Unknown speaker not human verified

mr perez may i go ahead and miss you they also did speak on behalf of their colleagues too so

Unknown speaker not human verified

So it wasn't just like we spoke with 60 or so odd teachers.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We spoke with 60 personnel that are in the classroom,

Unknown speaker not human verified

in addition to their teammates, their other teachers that they coordinate with.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is a broad, it's much broader,

Unknown speaker not human verified

and I really resent that you're making it sound like we only talked to 60 people.

Unknown speaker not human verified

No, we did not.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And we spent hours upon hours upon hours in the conversation with these people.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And so this was not just 60 insignificant people.

Unknown speaker not human verified

They're very significant.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I never said that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Well, sorry.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The tone just seems insignificant.

Unknown speaker not human verified

But this is 60 people and their colleagues.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And so this is not, it's just not okay for anyone to diminish the work that we did.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The number of people you didn't ask?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Let me jump in for one second.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Let me jump in for one second.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

What about them?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Are we rejecting my recommendation to get together?

Unknown speaker not human verified

And do you not want to do that, get together and hammer out?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

It won't get us anywhere, Mr. President.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

We don't agree with where the money should go.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I think it's longevity.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I think it's 20 years and up.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

You want to do every five years, and that's leaving out people in the middle.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I don't agree, I'm not going to agree with a one time at five years, one time at ten,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

one time at, I'm not going to agree with that, and I don't think you're going to agree with

Rebecca Fox not human verified

what I think is best.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

But I will agree with what teachers want.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

If they tell us, I will do what they say, but I'm not going to make a decision for them

Rebecca Fox not human verified

because I've talked, three people this weekend ran into me in a parking lot, at church.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I'm your 36.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I JUST FINISHED YEAR 35 AND I'M STAYING ONE MORE BECAUSE MY PRINCIPAL NEEDS ME TO HELP

Rebecca Fox not human verified

WITH SOMETHING AND I TOLD HER I'D DO ONE MORE.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

SO I'M OUT.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I DON'T GET $1 AND I'VE GIVEN 36 YEARS OF MY LIFE TO THIS DISTRICT.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

RIGHT?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

SO THESE ARE THE PEOPLE AND PEOPLE WHO ARE LIKE WE'RE BOTH TEACHERS AND NEITHER ONE OF

Rebecca Fox not human verified

US IS AT A 20 OR A 25 OR A 30.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

SO WE'RE JUST OUT?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

WHY DON'T WE MATTER?

Unknown speaker not human verified

So you don't want to spend the time to explore alternatives or to see if we can get this done, if we can approve this.

Unknown speaker not human verified

You don't want to commit the time to do that?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

If you're open to something like every year after 20 years of giving that, we could explore it.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Well, it depends on the money.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It depends on how much money we have.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I mean, I'm not committing to anything.

Unknown speaker not human verified

You're not either.

Unknown speaker not human verified

But I'm willing to put in the time to try to get this done.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It should be a good thing, not a divisive thing.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

i don't want it to be divisive but i don't want to speak for someone that i haven't heard from

Unknown speaker not human verified

mr president i mean you

Unknown speaker not human verified

go ahead and miss miss gizelle that's actually trustee kill him but i would like to say

Dawn Champagne not human verified

something after her if you don't mind go ahead and miss you i mean thank you uh first of all i

Dawn Champagne not human verified

i agree with um mrs fox that we should do a survey and i i agree with you also about the lunch

Dawn Champagne not human verified

thing but why can we do the survey first and then come back with the data and

Dawn Champagne not human verified

then we would have more information to go off of and I agree with you too mr.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Perez I'm not trying to say we should delve into everything like like that

Dawn Champagne not human verified

just about the compensation it doesn't have to be a lot of questions it could

Dawn Champagne not human verified

be I don't know five questions or less it could just be concentrated on the

Dawn Champagne not human verified

compensation something like would you rather get something every year after 20

Dawn Champagne not human verified

or would you rather get you know something every after 10 or would you

Dawn Champagne not human verified

rather get once every five years with and knowing that there's no guarantee of

Dawn Champagne not human verified

getting it the next year but that's for one thing but about the survey the

Dawn Champagne not human verified

teacher retention survey I think what I have an issue with is that we we have

Dawn Champagne not human verified

developed this whole thing based on the teacher retention survey and less than

Dawn Champagne not human verified

1% has been surveyed and you're saying that they talked to a team of teachers

Unknown speaker not human verified

that you know you know what I think I'm gonna stop I'm gonna stop one second the

Unknown speaker not human verified

item on the agenda is discuss and consider action related to the adoption

Unknown speaker not human verified

addition of the benchmark years of service one-time lump sum payment for

Unknown speaker not human verified

classroom teachers but that can I think I think we have yes but I think it's

Unknown speaker not human verified

That's the only thing that's on the agenda.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Right.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And so I'm going to halt discussion on non-agenda items.

Unknown speaker not human verified

What's on the agenda is only this issue right here, lump sum payment.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Well, then why?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Do we want to have a meeting to discuss?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Point of order, please.

Unknown speaker not human verified

No, no.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Because why was it mentioned in the agenda last time that this is based on?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I could probably find the agenda and read it to you that it was based on the teacher retention recruitment committee.

Unknown speaker not human verified

That's where it came from.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I disagree with your point of order.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Well, then I would like to have a reason why, and I'd like to amend your...

Unknown speaker not human verified

I disagree with your point of order.

Unknown speaker not human verified

You disagree with every point of order.

Unknown speaker not human verified

What I am doing is addressing that the agenda is on the lump sum payment.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Now, we haven't reached agreement, obviously.

Unknown speaker not human verified

That's why I'm asking for a separate meeting that we can get together

Unknown speaker not human verified

and talk about what we're willing to do as far as the lump sum payment.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Based on what information?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

We need to have a basis of how we're making this decision.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So now we can't even use the information that y'all got from the survey that y'all did.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So we cannot use that.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So now what are we going to use it based on?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So we can never talk about the conversations that y'all have for hours and hours anymore when we're talking about this decision

Dawn Champagne not human verified

because you've taken it off the table and there it is.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So from now on, this is just going to be out in the air, open.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And you know we're all gonna take a guess at because now we can't even take that you know what what we think people want

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr.. President, that's that's yes. Go ahead miss gazelle um when we decided on a 3% raise

Unknown speaker not human verified

We did not survey every teacher we decided with our brains and the budget what we could afford

Unknown speaker not human verified

Yes, that is everyone

Unknown speaker not human verified

But in in for what I would suggest

Unknown speaker not human verified

For you if you want some sort of basis to make a decision upon is a financial decision of what we can afford

Unknown speaker not human verified

And President Perez has suggested, and we should all know what the place marker is for this right now in the budget, and it's a million or less.

Unknown speaker not human verified

That's what our deficit right now spells.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So I would suggest considering that in your decision for this.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I agree with that.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And that's just the fact.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I agree with you, but raises come from cost of living across the board.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Most industries do it, and they don't ask everybody.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Lump sums are different.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And if you have a choice of how to receive a lump sum, do you want it every five years

Dawn Champagne not human verified

or do you want it every year after you turn 20, seems to be something that we could ask

Dawn Champagne not human verified

the community about because that's not a standard raise, whereas the cost of living increases.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So that's two completely different things.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

And the only thing I'm saying is that I agree with having the lunch, but I don't want to

Dawn Champagne not human verified

hear any kind of discussion about the teacher recruitment committee anymore if this is not

Dawn Champagne not human verified

what we're basing our decision on and if that's not what's on the agenda it's

Unknown speaker not human verified

pretty simple to to me it's pretty simple to understand that a lump sum

Unknown speaker not human verified

payment of some sort for seniority for time in the district for loyalty for

Unknown speaker not human verified

acknowledging service etc will be well received by teachers you would think

Unknown speaker not human verified

that would be well received by teachers now there's a lot of ways to skin the

Unknown speaker not human verified

the cat, okay, and we want to get it right, that's why I'm suggesting we have this additional

Unknown speaker not human verified

meeting to do exactly that.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Now if you're saying you don't believe that we need to do any lump sum payments whatsoever

Unknown speaker not human verified

because we didn't do like a big survey, that's a different story, but I think that teachers

Unknown speaker not human verified

teachers would welcome the addition of some benchmark years of service in some format

Unknown speaker not human verified

to reward them, to acknowledge their loyalty, et cetera.

Unknown speaker not human verified

That would be welcome.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I would think that's not really a controversial topic, that they would welcome that.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

The ones who receive it will welcome it.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

The ones you leave out will not.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

They will be angry, Mr. President.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Well, we might not be able to make everybody happy.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I've been doing this a long time.

Unknown speaker not human verified

We might not be able to make everybody happy.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

That's why we ask them.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And then when they tell us, we do what they say, and then it's on them.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

This is what you told us, and here's what we've done for you.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

When we make decisions in isolation of their input,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

it does not garner the favor that you think we're going to do.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Of course they want money, but they all do.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

That's why the 3%, very good.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Everyone got it.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

No one complained.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Everyone was grateful.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

So, and the surveys are free and unlimited.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

K-12 will do them.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

They could do them quickly, and we could do what Mrs. Champagne recommended.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

We're only talking one-time payments.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Is it in benchmark years, or is it for longevity?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Mr. Perez, I just want to have one more question, but this is an important question.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Why are you against the K-12 survey?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Because we're focused right here on the lump sum payment that's on the agenda.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So we need to do something with this.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Either we have another meeting to hammer it out, or we just, again, throw up our hands and say,

Unknown speaker not human verified

if you're against it, then we're going to try maybe another time to do it.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Mr. Perez, please answer my question.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is not about the survey.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is not about the survey.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

I just want to ask you the question.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Why are you against doing the K-12 survey for just the lump sum payment,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

for just the lump sum payment, not for anything else,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

just about the lump sum payment, why would we not do it?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Can I please understand why would we not do it?

Unknown speaker not human verified

What is the survey trying to get at?

Unknown speaker not human verified

What is the survey trying to get at?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Is it trying to get at that, yes, teachers would like more time to plan?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

No.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Teachers would like more discipline, et cetera?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Just about the lump sum.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Just about the lump sum.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Just about the lump sum.

Unknown speaker not human verified

So we're going to ask, we're going to go out and do a survey of thousands of teachers to ask them what should we do with a million dollars.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

No.

Unknown speaker not human verified

The board can't decide what we're going to do with a million dollars.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So, Mr. Perez, you said that there was a few options, right?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

To me, you would present those options as their choices.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

You know, which one is your favorite option?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

That's it.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

It would be one question.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

You know, here's an option, here's an option, here's an option.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

you know and then you just hear what they have to say and then by the way

Dawn Champagne not human verified

that lump sum when we did the teachers that survey that time it was actually

Dawn Champagne not human verified

sixty-five percent responded said yes that they wanted added so to me the

Dawn Champagne not human verified

teachers had buy-in to it so when they complained that they didn't get it well

Dawn Champagne not human verified

we could say you know sixty-five percent of you said you wanted it into your

Dawn Champagne not human verified

base pay so I don't want a lengthy survey and I don't want to hear about

Dawn Champagne not human verified

all the other problems that they're having I'm just talking about the lump

Dawn Champagne not human verified

sum and just offering them the choices whichever choices we feel are good and

Dawn Champagne not human verified

then they just choose which one that's it and I just want to know if you're

Dawn Champagne not human verified

opposed to that why are you opposed to that that's all I want to know I just

Unknown speaker not human verified

said that I don't think we need to send out a survey to figure out what how to

Unknown speaker not human verified

to spend a million dollars.

Unknown speaker not human verified

If that's all we're doing, we're establishing a program that we hope will grow, that will

Unknown speaker not human verified

be well received by everyone.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Maybe we're not able to make everybody happy day one, but it's a program that I think we

Unknown speaker not human verified

can establish to reward people for loyalty and acknowledge their service.

Unknown speaker not human verified

That's all that we're addressing here.

Unknown speaker not human verified

And we can't seem to agree on even meeting to hammer that out, come up with the structure, come up with the amounts, who gets it, et cetera.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr. President?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Yeah, go ahead, Mr. Redmond.

Lance Redmon not human verified

I think I would absolutely show up at the meeting.

Lance Redmon not human verified

I think where the value of the survey is is we can walk away saying, all right, we were thinking we needed to start at year five.

Lance Redmon not human verified

We were thinking that it needs to go, as a board, it needs to go for your years.

Lance Redmon not human verified

of service, but then we're calling it longevity,

Lance Redmon not human verified

is that reward those who have stayed in Katy?

Lance Redmon not human verified

Because that's really ultimately what we wanted to do is to reward

Lance Redmon not human verified

those who have stayed in Katy with us.

Lance Redmon not human verified

And so where I would see the value in the survey

Lance Redmon not human verified

is asking those questions.

Lance Redmon not human verified

Because I heard back from administrators and teachers

Lance Redmon not human verified

that were like, no, there are some people that

Lance Redmon not human verified

are very adamant that it needed to only be your years in Katy.

Lance Redmon not human verified

That's a much different, we have the ability

Lance Redmon not human verified

to reward a lot more people based on those.

Lance Redmon not human verified

If you go back through the data, right, where we currently jump off, the biggest feedback where we jump off on our salary schedule is about year 20.

Lance Redmon not human verified

Right?

Lance Redmon not human verified

So up until year 20, people are receiving more than the actual 3% because it's based on the midpoint.

Lance Redmon not human verified

And so, you know, so it makes sense.

Lance Redmon not human verified

So will I reward the people after year 20?

Lance Redmon not human verified

Because there are many reasons you base it on midpoint and why you have a flat structure of salaries.

Lance Redmon not human verified

There's compensation theory that governs all those things.

Lance Redmon not human verified

But I believe that the survey would help us in those instances again so that we not not do you want more money?

Lance Redmon not human verified

I

Lance Redmon not human verified

Agree with you. We know the answer

Lance Redmon not human verified

Everybody would say yes put as much money as you can and give it to us

Lance Redmon not human verified

But again, I was very surprised when we had teachers have the ability to make a thousand twelve hundred extra dollars

Lance Redmon not human verified

If they just showed up at school and taught and it addressed our substitute shortage, but when given the option

Lance Redmon not human verified

option, they said no, even though we have the chance at $1,200, I'd rather my team also receive

Lance Redmon not human verified

some of that money. And so I learned then that I don't always know what they think, but I do know

Lance Redmon not human verified

that survey, if it's written correctly, we could answer those questions about the year it starts,

Lance Redmon not human verified

who's rewarded, what do we skip? I think that's where the value is not, do you want to receive

Lance Redmon not human verified

more money? Okay, we know the answer to that. We can cross that question off. And so I believe

Lance Redmon not human verified

where we would get the most value out of this meeting is if we did have that data then we could

Lance Redmon not human verified

sit down and go through that but i will show up to whether we have the data or not i would like

Unknown speaker not human verified

to have the data okay yeah thank you um so i think i think what we need to do here is basically 8.1

Unknown speaker not human verified

is we're going to defer action on 8.1 and and that's it we're going to defer

Unknown speaker not human verified

action on 8.1 we're not going to at this meeting approve a addition to the

Unknown speaker not human verified

benchmark years of service one-time lump sum payment for classroom teachers so I

Unknown speaker not human verified

guess this is number two which is throw up our hands and say we tried we're going to push this

Unknown speaker not human verified

back and um and again as i said we it's something we should be able to get done and it shouldn't be

Unknown speaker not human verified

divisive but unfortunately it appears that it is so we're going to basically not take action on 8.1

Rebecca Fox not human verified

COMMISSIONER WRIGHT- Mr. President, would you consider having a meeting with Dr.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Gorgorski and Dr. Grooms and talk through like how we've done surveys in the past and just get

Rebecca Fox not human verified

some data from them that's not, doesn't sound like it's coming from me or us so that you get

Rebecca Fox not human verified

an idea of that? MR. Of course. Of course.

Unknown speaker not human verified

COMMISSIONER WRIGHT- Maybe if you- MR. Just like I'm willing to have a meeting

Unknown speaker not human verified

with everybody here and Mr. Schuss and Dr. Gorgorski to discuss variations of the compensation plan,

Unknown speaker not human verified

variations to the lump sum payment. That's what I'm saying. Absolutely.

Unknown speaker not human verified

MS.

Unknown speaker not human verified

CHAIRPERSON WONG.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Okay.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

So it's not throw up your hands.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

It's let's keep working on, you'll talk to them about survey.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Maybe we can come together and have a compromise on both.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

I too would attend a meeting about the compensation plan and I wish we have, I prefer to have

Rebecca Fox not human verified

the data before we do that.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And I hope that you will have a conversation about doing the survey and then it's a compromise,

Rebecca Fox not human verified

right?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

We've done both.

Unknown speaker not human verified

MR.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Yeah, I'm just, I'm just.

Unknown speaker not human verified

CHAIRPERSON WONG.

Unknown speaker not human verified

That's not divisive.

Unknown speaker not human verified

No, but I'm just disappointed that...

Rebecca Fox not human verified

That's leadership.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I'm just disappointed.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is something that is extra, that we didn't have to propose.

Unknown speaker not human verified

You know, we approved the 3% raise.

Unknown speaker not human verified

This is kind of an extra recommendation that was made, again, to acknowledge loyalty,

Unknown speaker not human verified

to acknowledge, provide some sort of incentive, to provide recognition.

Unknown speaker not human verified

It's something extra that we're trying to do, and it seems, I don't know,

Unknown speaker not human verified

it seems to have been met with a lot of resistance that surprised me so i'm um but let's obviously

Unknown speaker not human verified

we're open to meet as a board in a workshop uh hopefully to get together and hammer out the

Unknown speaker not human verified

details to hear from dr grooms dr gorgorski etc all that is on the table anything else

Unknown speaker not human verified

mr president um i would love to meet as well i'd actually love to to take care of things right now

Unknown speaker not human verified

But I will be patient and wait and discuss but I request that whatever we do we understand our financial

Unknown speaker not human verified

limits

Unknown speaker not human verified

Because there's no sense in talking about the pie in the sky when we can't afford it or any kind of options

Unknown speaker not human verified

Likewise, so we must understand what we're operating within

Unknown speaker not human verified

So I just read I'm sure you understand that and I just yeah, very clear. Yeah, that's what I said earlier

Unknown speaker not human verified

Which is it's you know, we're going through this trouble sending out a survey to spend

Unknown speaker not human verified

spend very little money.

Unknown speaker not human verified

You know, in terms of, again, it's very little money that we're talking about spending

Unknown speaker not human verified

because of the budgetary constraints, and I'm respecting the budgetary constraints,

Unknown speaker not human verified

which basically says that we shouldn't spend more than $800,000 to $1 million on this

Unknown speaker not human verified

because we just did commit to a 3% raise, which I think was excellent, very important,

Unknown speaker not human verified

and hopefully it was well received so we're limited in terms of what we can do

Unknown speaker not human verified

with this program okay we'll move on to information items 9.1 and that's the

9.1 Board Committee Updates

Unknown speaker not human verified

board committee updates and the one that committee meeting we had on the Finance

Unknown speaker not human verified

committee was right before the work-study committee meeting where we

Unknown speaker not human verified

reviewed the budget amendments as well as the April financial reports as well

Unknown speaker not human verified

as looked at the the lump sum payment as well in that board committee and that

Unknown speaker not human verified

was the week before the work-study I believe and then I think we have a

Unknown speaker not human verified

a report from ms Cuzela on the policy committee yes um thank you president perez uh the policy

Unknown speaker not human verified

committee uh trustee calhoun president perez and i met briefly with assistant superintendents and

Unknown speaker not human verified

mrs hack and dr gregorski to discuss how cell phones were managed this year we also had heard

Unknown speaker not human verified

a summary of feedback given to Mrs. Sherry Ashworn by campus administrators and like principals and

Unknown speaker not human verified

assistant principals about discipline and what things were going up which things were going well

Unknown speaker not human verified

and which needed improvement was very informative it was very appreciative of their time and we had

Unknown speaker not human verified

a check-in meeting on the continued implementation of efb which is library books how the library book

Unknown speaker not human verified

book purchases are going and how the maintenance of the existing collection is progressing.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Thank you.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Thank you.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Mr. Redman, did you have anything?

Unknown speaker not human verified

I think there's an academic meeting coming up.

Lance Redmon not human verified

July 17th.

Lance Redmon not human verified

We'll need to go over that and hopefully now with all the STAAR scores released and whatnot,

Lance Redmon not human verified

we'll have a chance to go over those and see what that looks like for performance this year.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Mr. Perez?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Ms. Champagne?

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So in your committee that you had your policy committee and you got the reports,

Dawn Champagne not human verified

is there any way for the rest of the board members to please see those reports of the discipline management

Dawn Champagne not human verified

and the library reports that were received, that you all received?

Unknown speaker not human verified

I don't know what reports.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

You said that you got a lot of information.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Discussion, conversation, mostly.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Honestly, but not documents or anything.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Not a formal report.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Correct, Mrs. Ashburn.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Okay.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Perhaps if you want to ask for that in our Freddie update for Mrs. Ashburn, she could supply that to you.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

Well, I think there is a policy that every board member should receive the same information as every other board member.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So if y'all are getting some kind of report.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

So our financial reports are always given here at the board meetings.

Dawn Champagne not human verified

meetings. So if you're receiving other information, I would like to also hear about that. You

Dawn Champagne not human verified

can always ask for that. But I don't know, I appreciate you telling me that and thank

Dawn Champagne not human verified

goodness we're having these committee reports because otherwise I wouldn't have known what

Dawn Champagne not human verified

you had gotten and I wouldn't have known what to ask for. So, because I don't know what

Unknown speaker not human verified

they'll do. So these meetings are face-to-face, people with a notebook taking notes and asking

Unknown speaker not human verified

questions and talking okay no formal room okay thank you we have a 9.2 recap

9.2 Recap of Board member requests for information.

Unknown speaker not human verified

of board member request for information and madam secretary that we captured any

Rebecca Fox not human verified

requests from the board I did not I have a request please would it be possible

Rebecca Fox not human verified

for all board members to get a copy of the letter sent to the Attorney General

Rebecca Fox not human verified

about the public information request on the teacher retention committee and

Rebecca Fox not human verified

And what the letter said to the Attorney General, and do we know when to get a reply from that?

Unknown speaker not human verified

Yeah, I haven't seen it.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I mean, I don't know.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Could we maybe talk about that?

Unknown speaker not human verified

I suppose, yeah.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Sure.

Unknown speaker not human verified

Thank you.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Because it's an outside attorney, we don't have it in-house.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Dr. Gorgorski, have you been provided that by our outside attorney?

Ken Gregorski not human verified

No, ma'am.

Ken Gregorski not human verified

I don't have it, nor have I ever seen it.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Okay.

Unknown speaker not human verified

I've never seen it either, but we can get it.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Can you see if it?

Rebecca Fox not human verified

Sure.

Rebecca Fox not human verified

if that's something that we could be provided sure i'll i'll find out thank you okay um that's it

10. Future Meetings

Unknown speaker not human verified

we will have a work study meeting on monday july 22nd 2024 and there will be a regular board

Unknown speaker not human verified

meeting on monday july 29 2024 there being no further business for the board this meeting

Unknown speaker not human verified

Thank you.

If this is wrong, please tell us and it will be corrected on the record. Contact us.
