Good evening, Madam President, Board Members, and Superintendent Hent. Tonight, we are honoring all of our district namesakes who have contributed so much to our district. However, as you can see, due to the constraints of our meeting room, prior to this meeting, we decided to recognize their work and dedication to our schools and community. Our namesakes are respected mentors, devoted members of our community, and beloved leaders and educators. educators. Their lives of leadership and passion for learning have been passed on from generation to generation and we give them our deepest appreciation. They truly are the foundation of our legacy here at KDISD. And as you can see, we have quite a few namesakes here on our list. And new to our KDISD namesake family this year are Bob and Felice Bryant, the Stockdick Octic Family, Patty Pato, Anna Baker, Sydney Self, and Lester Reinicker. Let's give our namesakes a well-deserved round of applause.

He's got himself right there. That's right. I missed him.
And this concludes our recognitions for this evening.
Thank you Mr. Peta. Next we move on to agenda item number six, public hearing. At the board work study meeting last week, Marcus Forney, executive director for campus administration support, gave an overview of the Simon Youth Academy and proposed application for the optional flexible school day program. the Board of Trustees will now receive public input regarding this topic. Those individuals requesting to speak regarding the Simon Youth Academy optional Flexible School Day program signed up prior to the start of this meeting. 30 minutes have been allotted for this public hearing. Time allowed will be divided equally among those requesting to speak. We have no speakers so this is the end of the public hearing. Thank you for your... I don't even think anybody can say it. That is it. So now I move on to 7, action item.
Madam President.
Mrs. Doyle.
I move that the Board of Trustees approves the application to be sent to the Texas Education Agency for the Simon Youth Academy Optional Flexible School Day Program.
Second.
A motion has been made by Mrs. Doyle, a second by Mr. Mohalski, that the Board of Trustees approves the application to be sent to the Texas Education Agency for the Simon Youth Academy optional flexible school day program. All in
favor raise your right hand say aye. Aye. Motion passes 7-0. Madam President. Mrs. Doyle. I move that the Board of Trustees approves the consent agenda as recommended in items 8.1 through 8.11. Second. Who was that?
that? A motion has been made by Mrs. Doyle, a second by Mr. Moholsky that the Board of Trustees approves a Consent Agenda as recommended in items 8.1 through 8.11. All those in favor raise your right hand and say aye. Motion passes 7 to 0. Agenda item number 9 discuss the school building bond election held on November 7, 2017.
Well, I'll start us off. Last Tuesday was a good night.
All right?
And very pleased with the outcome. And I just want to say on behalf of the, on behalf of Superintendent, we've got a great group of administration over there that worked their tails off. And I know that this school board did as well. So just from me to all of you, thank you for your hard work. I think you paid it off. and we'll canvass the vote Friday. You know my wife and I prayed quite a bit about it. Let me tell you quite a bit. All right and you know not only did we ask for one more vote but we asked for a few more and I didn't want there to be a question and right now as it stands 66% or two-thirds majority voted in favor of this and it didn't have any geographic boundaries as far as Harris, Fort Bend or Waller. Very pleased with outcome but most most importantly pleased for the the students, staff, and community of Katy, and those future students that are going to show up here in the next, you know, four to five years. Thank you all.
Mr. Griffin.
Dr. Hint, the previous bond, we had a large bond group. This one, we had a slight modification, so it was a smaller group. After you look at the whole process, will you come back to the board and have a recommendation? So when we need another bond, we'll at least have the framework so each time we get better and better because the results this time were even better than last time. Absolutely. You
know I think sometimes school districts come back after a failure but we need to reconvene on the success of this bond so we can write down those things that were successful for us so that when we come back hopefully in four years if we can stretch it you know we'll have a good template for what we need to do. Awesome.
Madam President, Mrs. Doyle. Thank you for the recognition of the the administration and the board working very hard for this bond and I know there was the community members that were part of the bond committee worked very hard as well but I think thank you also needs to go to you dr. man because this was the first bond election that you were the superintendent of and it was refreshing and remarkable to see how hard you worked how many how many different bond bites did you attend I think I know the number but I don't want to misquote it 32 yeah but I think that made the difference in the community being educated on what the committee was asking for because you were so very open and out in the public eye the videos that we did things like that I just felt I think that the community felt more educated on what they were voting for and the number showed so thank you for your dedication and your hard work and leading us to such a successful win.
Anyone else? Madam President, this is Fox. So I echo the sentiments Dr. Hinton. The, I'm not going to repeat what has been said, but I will like to add that I appreciate you coming from a social studies teacher perspective. The thing that's really great about about you for our district is you haven't forgotten your teacher roots and and nobody forgets them but you're reminded of them all the time and you talk about them all the time and your emphasis to our teachers about their civic duties and talking about the importance of voting and and you know I said all the time your your vote is your voice and so and for you to to help them understand that that's that's a powerful thing it's something we should be proud of we didn't ask you no one asked anyone how they vote but the importance of voting and I think that permeated throughout our entire community not just our employees but throughout the community
and I appreciated that teachers and staff did a great job right teachers and
staff did a great job in the community also you know they it's the ownership of when you when you vote on something you have an ownership you have a buy-in and and you want to see it successful. I appreciate that.
Mr. Halsky. I will repeat one word that Courtney used. First and foremost, I think this bond election, it was very nice to see that there was not, across the community, by and large, it was a very positive thing. There was not a lot of opposition that we've grown accustomed to a little bit in this community over time. And I do attribute a lot of that, and it was quite refreshing, as Courtney had said, to see the superintendent out in front of us. And I think that that makes a huge difference when you're out there just making people aware, talking about what's coming, talking about the needs that this district has. So much appreciation for the efforts there.
Madam President, I think that Dr. Hintz's leadership was probably 90% of making this happen the way it did. but I look out here at these folks and ones that were at the shelters, ones that were operating the shelters, ones that were manning the shelters. I think something special started happening at about that time. Harvey did a tremendous amount of damage to a lot of people. One of the most impressive, almost inspirational things to me, is that in the areas that suffered the greatest damage is where the highest percentage of votes for the bond issue is high everywhere. The people whose homes are still ravaged, who have financial pictures that they don't even really able to quantify at this point in time, came out to support it and finally I think that that the structure of the bond and the openness of the communication has meant means that this community has gone from one where there was justification for distrust to one where the trust has been reestablished and it creates great things for the future. I think this was an extremely important bond issue and I think the district comes out of it thanks to Dr. Hinton and his team, all of you all, with more confidence, more trust than ever before and that can only mean good things for the district.
I'm not going to bore all of us with the same thing that everyone else is sad and you know yes we can recognize everyone that's here. I think what we have to what What I'm most impressed with is our community spoke. Our community spoke loudly, and our community said, we don't want to have overcrowded schools. We want to have safe schools. We want to have our children have the opportunity to be educated. Six schools, one high school, two junior highs, three elementaries, will help eliminate all that, give us a safer learning space, give us the opportunities for all of the children at each one of those schools to participate in things. I think that's very important. had we not passed it who knows what would have happened but thankfully we didn't have to make those decisions so I'm very proud of the staff I'm very proud of the administration I'm very proud of the board and most importantly I'm proud of the community that came together and spoke their voice this is what our community wants and this is what we shall do as a board and we shall
do as an administration thank you victory and then we woke up the next day realized oh gosh we got a lot of work
no thank you board members it I for the sake of not being redundant I you spoke every sentiment that that's in my heart and we all worked very hard cabinet worked very hard the community worked very hard dr. hint you worked extremely extremely hard and we all saw that and you've all spoken to that. One thing I will say as a product, a past product of this district who has children currently in this district and we know there's kids that are coming to this district. This bond, this win, this passing of a bond that represents all three of those groups. So that's something that really speaks volumes, you know, I think in this victory and there is a lot of work going forward so with this bond passing that is now a charge for this bond for this board and this administration going forward so it's exciting work to have ahead of us and until then we'll go eat some turkey and then come back and and get the hard work done all right any anything else all right thank you very much I will bring your attention to agenda number 10 donated items to the Acadia Independent School District. We have future meetings, special board meeting here Friday November 17th to canvas the vote of our bond election and then we have a board work-study meeting Monday December 4th 2017. It's crazy to think it's already December. Followed by a regular board meeting on Monday December 11th 2017 and being no further business. Madam President just before you
finish can we just say best wishes to the girls volleyball going to stake on Friday. Friday, go Spartans. Go Spartans.
We're looking forward to them doing really great. Yes, good luck. This is Spartan, Seven Lakes High School Volleyball. There being no further business before the board, this meeting is adjourned. The time is 6.54 p.m.

About the underlying data (7 notes)
- The transcript on this page was produced automatically by speech recognition. No person has checked it against the recording. It is a way to find a passage, not a quotation.
- No speaker on this recording is identified. The transcript separates one voice from another but does not name them, and every turn therefore reads Unknown speaker.
- The speaker turn timeline is not continuous. There are intervals with no attributed turn, so a gap between two turns is not evidence that nothing was said.
- The district’s video index for this meeting carries no timestamps, so the recording is presented here as a single section rather than divided into agenda items.
- The district publishes this recording as 11 separate files rather than one. The player on this page plays the first file; the later parts are on the district’s own player, linked above. Transcript times run continuously across the whole recording, so a time past the end of the first file will not play here.
- The recording is played here from the district’s own stream. The archive does not hold or serve a copy of the video.
- No speaker on this page is named. The automated attribution available for this recording was derived from names spoken aloud in the transcript, and a surname inside a turn is not evidence of who is speaking. Every speaker is therefore left unresolved.
