item 5.1 Mr. Michalski it is with great pleasure excitement and gratitude that I move that the Board of Trustees names Dr. Lance Hint as lone finalist for the position of superintendent of schools for Katy Independent School District and gives public notice thereof as required by law second I have a motion by Brian
I'm a second by Henry de braille That the Board of Trustees names Dr. Lance hint as the lone finalist for the position of superintendent of schools for Katy Independent School District and gives public notice Thereof as required by law There any discussion President mr. Mahalski
So when we started this process a few months ago and hired was this in Thompson to help us lead us through this process and a much gratitude to you guys as well for the job that you did one of the first things that was very important was to reach out to the community and through the focus groups the surveys we heard although I will say we kind of knew what we were looking for and what we believed we needed in this district the characteristics for super for our next leadership and those focus groups and surveys really confirm that and I'm just here today to tell you we found him or he found us I'm not sure which but we found each other and with that I just want to say welcome home Lance
Madam President, through this process we've had a lot of meetings in different places and undertook a lot of different activities. One of which is Ms. Fox and I had the privilege of traveling to Dr. Hintz's current district, Allen ISD. And we met with a lot of people in that visit and found out a lot of wonderful things, very impressive. And we'll probably hear all of those things over the next few weeks. but the one that was most impressive was that we had a moment that wasn't planned with a bus driver and what this bus driver said was that you will find dr. Hinn at six o'clock in the morning bringing us donuts and kalashies and asking what can we do to make your job easier and better and at that moment I knew we had found the right man. Someone that so cares about his community that he will take the time to know what he can do to make your job easier. And there's so many stories I have, so I'm going to just give someone else an opportunity. But welcome to Katy. Welcome home.
Mrs. Doyle.
I want to concur with what my fellow board members are saying and and through this process it was very tedious and we we were presented with some outstanding candidates for this position but with looking at what the community wanted with looking at what we felt that we needed here and then meeting Lance it did not take very long for us to know that he was going to make a great asset be a great asset to our district and then once we met his sweet wife and just saw the support system that Lance brings with him in his faith and in his family we knew without a doubt that he would be a difference maker for our district so I want to welcome you both as well
Mr. Scott?
I'm not at all hesitant in expressing my support for Dr. Hinn. I think that this could be a very wonderful superintendent, a great leader for the district, and I'm very confident and hopeful that it's going to work out that way.
I agree with everything that our board members have said here today. One thing you'll find out, Mia, I don't like to be redundant. So I'm just going to say I completely agree with all the sentiments shared and From one James E Taylor high school graduate to another welcome home
Finding a superintendent is not an easy task, but is one that we take very seriously and it's you know something that's a great honor and a great responsibility and Choosing the the person that would lead KDISD in the future and to be a part of our vision statement, Be the Legacy. When the school board adopted Be the Legacy as the vision, we did it because KDISD is so much a part of tradition and history, which created us, the legacy which created us. But Be the Legacy is also what will we do now that we are here in our positions? How will we contribute to the legacy? And Dr. Hint is both. He is a 1983 graduate of James E. Taylor High School. He's spent a great deal of time in Fort Bend, helping our neighbors in Fort Bend, and he's come home. And he's currently the superintendent in Allen ISD, where he has done such a magnificent job that when we did the site visit, it created quite a stir. They absolutely wanted to close the roads and keep him there, and I can tell why with with each person that we interviewed and visited with, not interviewed, visited with, there is a deep gratitude and a deep love for your family and the work that you have done there. And every person spoke of your character, your leadership, your love for that community. And we know that you will bring those exact characteristics here. And Mrs. Hint, thank you for joining him and coming here mrs. Hint is a classroom teacher our teachers will love that she she can teach all areas but she loves math and she loves elementary and junior high boys and girls and we will welcome you here and and like like we got a one-two punch but we got two for the press it's so awesome so we're so grateful that you're coming to katie and thank you for saying yes okay so there is a motion that the board of trustees names dr lance hint as the lone finalist for the position of superintendent of schools for katie independent school district and gives public notice thereof as required by law motion was made by brian mahalzki and seconded by henry debrel all in favor raise your right hand and say aye aye the motion passes six to zero mr griffin is working he's a pilot and his schedule is not very flexible and uh it's unfortunate because i wanted to give him the gavel tonight because he led us uh through this process and uh just as the president of our board from last year he he led us through the whole thing and i wanted him to have this honor tonight but we uh miss him and he has of course full support for dr. Hint and since his regrets for not being able to be here I'm guessing that you all would like to hear from dr. Hint so we've given him a microphone and we're going to let him say a few words welcome
First let me say if I get a little emotional it's because not a lot of people have an opportunity to come home. You know as they indicate it 1983 graduate of Katie Taylor High School you know to take a line from the movie The Wizard of Oz there's no place like home. I don't have the red slippers on all right but I'm not shy to wear them once in a while but let me let me just say this this is a wonderful school board I've had an opportunity to get to know this board the last couple of months and what I can tell you is they love this community and I look forward to rekindling some old relationships I just looked down here and saw coach Johnson I've known a long time coach how are you and I see faces around the room what I can tell you is that I love kids I love education it's not about me though the things that we accomplished in the former districts that I was in was because of the community it takes a joint effort to take care of kids and here in Katie 73 thousand plus I think you're growing by about three thousand a year I told this board I look forward to being here when that 100,000 student walks through the door this is where I started I'll tell you and talking with the board I told them not a lot of people get to go home and go visit a building where Garland McMeans was your high school principal or go visit a building where mr. ties was your assistant principal and I will tell you mr. ties could swing a mean paddle I know firsthand you know I can go on with names and names of educators that played a huge part in my life and just to have an opportunity to come back and give to that community and to do the things that they did before me you know the vision be the legacy believe me I am here because of the legacy of so many many people here in Katy. Let me close with just how blessed I am to have this opportunity. There's one person higher than all of us, and he has done quite a bit for me. I also want to say that this lady right here is my life. I love my wife very much. She's been by my side 23 years now, and you better stay by my side for some time to come. And I also have two special people in the back here. My father, who has been a 40-year resident here in Katy, 40 years plus. Dad, and my brother Garrett, who lives here in Katy also. Again, I just look forward to getting to know everybody, rekindling those relationships. I've got friends sitting here, I can name them over and over. Jim Creech, who took me out of a junior high and put me in a high school and started my career. So thank you for allowing me to come work in this community, Coach Joseph. I mean, this is going to be really neat. I look forward to providing for the kids and I look forward to providing for the staff. Thank you for coming.
.
his dad thank goodness his dad lived here we use that leverage every chance we could dr. hint and mrs. hint if you would join us right here at the front I have I have one more thing and I just want you to see who's here but if you'll come stand here we're going to take a couple of pictures as soon as we're over but if you'll stand here and face the crowd and if you are a namesake legacy your name appears on any of our campuses or any of our parts of our buildings would you you please stand we want that went hence to see you thank you if you work in one of our campuses not the administration building will do that separately if you work in one of our campuses if you're a teacher a principal or someone who works in a campus please stand if you are an administrator and work in this building will you please stand

I know so many of our employees also live in the community, but I just want you to see the community love that we have for you. and if you're a pastor and standing on the back row under the clock please you know like kind of weird joke sometimes it's just please wave have I missed anybody elected officials please stand yes representative Schofield and representative their losses representative dr. grooms anybody you can think okay we're really glad you're here we're going to take a few pictures and then we want you to meet everyone and memorize names by the time we leave okay good okay anybody there being no further business before the board this meeting is adjourned the time is 5 16 pm

About the underlying data (7 notes)
- The transcript on this page was produced automatically by speech recognition. No person has checked it against the recording. It is a way to find a passage, not a quotation.
- No speaker on this recording is identified. The transcript separates one voice from another but does not name them, and every turn therefore reads Unknown speaker.
- The speaker turn timeline is not continuous. There are intervals with no attributed turn, so a gap between two turns is not evidence that nothing was said.
- The district’s video index for this meeting carries no timestamps, so the recording is presented here as a single section rather than divided into agenda items.
- The district publishes this recording as 2 separate files rather than one. The player on this page plays the first file; the later parts are on the district’s own player, linked above. Transcript times run continuously across the whole recording, so a time past the end of the first file will not play here.
- The recording is played here from the district’s own stream. The archive does not hold or serve a copy of the video.
- No speaker on this page is named. The automated attribution available for this recording was derived from names spoken aloud in the transcript, and a surname inside a turn is not evidence of who is speaking. Every speaker is therefore left unresolved.
