This journey started on February 19th, 2018. This month we achieved some vindication about our claims of corruption among the Katy ISD school board and the Katy ISD district executives. Here’s my best attempt to share it:
Here is the rest of the story
After years of my children (mostly my boys) facing a string of injustices in their public schools, I’d had enough. At the time I was training for my first ultra-marathon, and brooding over the mistreatment of my children by district staff members. On February 10 I ran the 50-mile Rocky Racoon ultra marathon while listening to Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules For Life. I thought that maybe the run would ease my anger, and even considered that maybe I would let this go after the run. As I crossed the finish line, I had practically written my speech to the local school board.
A few days later, on February 14th, the Parkland shooting happened. Two of my employees at the time had graduated from that same school. As I researched the shooter, it made me sick to my stomach because I was seeing through my own children how these public schools are at minimum doing nothing, and at worst, creating these school shooters.
5 days later, I signed up to speak at my local school board meeting.
I aired my grievances with the local school board on February 19th 2018. You can see the video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vZ-OJf3j820&feature=youtu.be
The school board did not respond to what I felt were legitimate concerns. No email, no returned phone calls. Nothing for an entire month. I posted my video on social media, and MANY citizens came forward with similar stories of injustice at the hands of various members of our public school district.
These public school meetings allow public comments once a month. Upon my return to the very next meeting in March, I asked the district why they did not respond to my remarks last month. Dr. Lance Hindt, the Superintendent made a very callous remark about my deceased step-son, and smiled in his victory as he effectively silenced me.
The next person called to the podium for public comment, immediately after Lance made these terrible remarks to me, was Greg Gray, who was now upset by what he had just witnessed in Lance’s behavior, because the reason he came to speak was because my issues were ignored the month before. Greg did not intend to name Lance in his speech, but he was mad. I shared Greg’s video online similar to my own, which went viral.
Here is Greg Gay’s speech to the school board:
(here is just one version of the video with 14 Million views: https://www.facebook.com/NowThisNews/videos/1871792132910902/)
Dr. Lance Hindt publicly these allegations immediately, says he does not know Greg Gay, and denies being a part of any bullying. Essentially, he calls Greg a liar.
Fortunately for Greg, a lot of people never left this town, and witnesses start sharing their stories with me, which I then share publicly to back up Greg’s claim.
Chris Dolan (no relation to me) comes forward and says he was in the bathroom and witnessed Lance put Greg’s head in the urinal: https://abc13.com/%E2%80%A6/witness-backs-allegations-again%E2%80%A6/3243560/
Everyone ran this story locally:
Then the national news picked it up:
They discussed it on The View: https://business.facebook.com/rjillpruitt/videos/10210956048526390/UzpfSTE5Mjc5MjE2NDgxMDU4NjoyMDU1MDg0MTY4NzIyOTQ/?business_id=862637683807176
Inside Edition: https://business.facebook.com/rjillpruitt/videos/10210956048526390/UzpfSTE5Mjc5MjE2NDgxMDU4NjoyMDU1MDg0MTY4NzIyOTQ/?business_id=862637683807176
Superintendent Dr. Lance Hindt, along with the school board continue to deny these allegations. I’m tipped off about an 18-year old Lance Hindt beating a man into a coma and leaving him for dead. Fox 26 runs the story of the assault: http://www.fox26houston.com/news/more-brutality-emerging-in-katy-isd-superintendents-past
Now the whole community is split. Two dueling petitions, one started by a recent graduate to have Lance Fired, and another by some district sycophants who support Lance no matter what type of person he is. Chronicle writes about the dueling petitions: https://www.chron.com/neighborhood/katy/article/katy-isd-lance-hindt-petition-termination-2018-12790784.php
Lance Hindt and the district continue to dig in their heels and circle the wagons. Lance apologizes for all of this bad publicity, but takes zero blame for it, admitting nothing: https://abc13.com/society/i-did-dumb-things-katy-isd-superintendent-says/3293668/
He talks about finding his wife, and Jesus, and wants everyone to just move on.
Then comes the Judge. David Carpenter, a sitting criminal court Judge in Alabama gets wind of the drama in his hometown of Katy, Texas where he went to school with Lance. He reaches out and shares his story of watching Lance Hindt throw 25 pound weight plates at freshman. Here’s the story: https://www.fox26houston.com/news/judge-says-katy-superintendent-was-once-a-vicious-bully
Here’s a great op ed about Greg vs Lance: https://www.chron.com/news/columnists/falkenberg/article/Where-s-the-compassion-for-bullying-victim-12803517.php
Now, with multiple witness coming forward showing that Lancer was a bully from gradeschool through adulthood, the district must respond drastically.
So, they form a prayer circle on district property and pray over poor Lance. It was the most bizarre cultish thing I’ve ever witnessed in light of all of the evidence: https://abc13.com/3343116/

Pat Gray weighs in: (skip to 51:08) https://omny.fm/shows/pat-gray/extraordinary-times-bare-cupboards-cbs-freakout-4
It’s mid April 2018. I’m sitting in front of a mountain of evidence that Lance Hindt is a horrible human being and not the person to protect my children, and not just when he was a child, but as an adult, he can’t be honest about his past. The whole community had access to the evidence but somehow, because of this cult of personality we have about Texas Superintendents, Greg and I were the ‘evil ones’ in the community. People accused us of lying about a good man. My children’s friends were not allowed at our house. I lost clients. Anyone involved was ostracized, while Lance sat in a prayer circle of sycophants.
That’s when I discovered that he plagiarized his 2012 doctoral dissertation. I messaged the school board to handle it quietly, but either because they didn’t believe me, or they didn’t care either way, they ignored me. So, I went public on Fox: https://www.fox26houston.com/news/parent-calls-on-uh-to-investigate-katy-superintendent-for-academic-dishonesty
This man was well into his mid-forties when he thought it was a good idea to falsify research and fake an entire doctoral dissertation at the University of Houston.
The same day that story aired, the district made a public statement that my allegations were ‘Verifiably False” and “there was no truth to these allegations. No truth. I got a lot of shit from the community because of those statements.
9 days after I went public with the plagiarism, the school board announced a special meeting, with two agenda items. 1) an amendment to the Superintendent’s contract. 2) hiring outside counsel to pursue a defamation lawsuit. Both received a unanimous 7-0 vote.
My wife was pissed about the possibility of being sued. We had a panic attack just about every time we got a letter from the district. I didn’t show it publicly, but I was scared shitless. Was my own public school, with unlimited funds really going to sue me for something that’s absolutely true with my own tax dollars? It was jarring.
Lance’s contract amendment set him up with a 750k severance package, and $25k of public funds towards this defamation lawsuit.
For 623 days from the day I went public with the plagiarism allegations, I waited for UH to complete their investigation. While it took me 30 minutes to conclude my own investigation of the plagiarism, somehow a University takes 623 days.
(I’ll skip 623 days of shenanigans by the district, fake police reports on me, smear campaigns against me, etc etc.)
January 31st 2020, the Houston Chronicle ran my vindication article on their front page.
Here’s the article: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Former-Katy-ISD-superintendent-s-dissertation-15013746.phpAnd here’s Fox 26’s followup: https://www.fox26houston.com/news/former-katy-isd-superintendent-dissertation-removed-from-uh-after-plagiarism-probe
It’s been hell, but worth it.
Right now I am helping three people get elected to the school board this May. Out of the 7 school board members who voted to sue me for defamation, only 3 remain, and all three are running for reelection. Once they are pulled down, I will have some closure. I think.
